Pro Tect didn't have the right size for roof but his price was good, $250.

So after considering getting the R1S roof tinted with the Xpel XR Plus, $400, I went with this cheaper option. I really just need it for 4months out of the yr.

Why: Stock tint is not enough to keep Texas sun/heat out. I actually feel my head getting warmer as I drive down the street.

How: Installation took 10mins or so. Make sure to use the clips it comes with. Shiny side goes up, meaning it looks out at the sun. Also there is a tag on it, that side faces towards tailgate.

Note: this is for the main panaroof, rear one is not included and don't think they make one yet.

Overall happy with look and install. Will continue to test it out on drives and report back.

Be glad you don’t live in Colorado - everywhere I’ve asked has quoted me almost $700 for the roof alone.

Has anyone found a decent windshield shade?

Weather tech also has them plus all other windows. Front window is 65 and if you get all windows it’s 149. This does not include the roof glass. But is very nice. The fit is tight, best shade yet for a vehicle I have owned.

But I went with the BestEvMod and it’s great
It’s mesh with a magnetic black and reflective panel you can put between it and the glass

also worth mentioning they have a grey option that is close to the OC interior

I had my tint and stealth wrap done at Scott Solar Auto Spa in Dallas (Arlington). Tint for every window surface in my R1T (incl top and front) was $1200 for the very best XPel Prime XR Plus, which I have found to be optically clearer than any other premium IR tint (tried them all), especially at night. Fabulous installers.

My full Stealth PPF installation along with that was $5k, including XPel ceramic (even more noticeable with stealth wrap).

Yea I reached out to Scott Solar via yelp, they responded with an initial email and fair pricing. After that I was unable to reach them, tried multiple phone calls and emails. Left voicemails, they nvr respond. So I moved on.

I leave my R1S outside at my office all day and was very surprised that the heat does not come through the roof as I had anticipated. I live in SW Florida, it's been over 100 degrees for the past 2 weeks and people who have been in the car say similar things. Everyone who rides with me seems to put their hand up to the glass and says the same thing. Not much heat comes through, yes warm to touch but definitely not hot. Mine is a 2023. Perhaps they've improved the thermal reflection? My buddy has the R1T and went to his tint guy for the side windows. When he asked about the top glass the guy said not to bother, that the glass they're using is like Tesla's and works very well as reducing thermal load.

I live in Austin, TX and feel the same. I’ve been pretty amazed by how well it shields the interior from heat, even in the middle of the day. Once the interior cools down (precooling is awesome-this is the first car I’ve owned that has that feature, and it’s super easy to access via the app), I don’t notice any real heat gain while driving around. That said, my wife is sensitive to the light that comes in over the top of her sunglasses, so I’ve just ordered the BestEVMod shade for my R1T. Little effort to leave it on until the summer weather breaks in October, and leave it off until next May

I just got mine and I can confirm that it is pretty solid black with reflective layer facing outwards and lets almost no light through. I had emailed their sales department and they said it was translucent mesh, but it is not. It's pretty unwieldily to get in and found it was actually easier to open outside of the vehicle and feed through the hatch. Put the back in first and work your way forward, two people I'm sure would be easier. Note, it only goes in one way. There is a black tag on one corner. That goes to the rear passenger side.

I really wanted a mesh style, I'm seeing if I can get a refund or price adjustment of some kind.

Yea, I was just surprised that the shade is completely dark and not mesh type for the R1S, the R1T version appears to be mesh. I emailed them and they told me that the R1S was mesh. After I paid, of course they are not responding to my emails. I suppose I'll just have to remove when it gets cooler, I did want some light to come through.
