If Rivian simply rotated the stadium headlights 90 degrees, from vertical to horizontal, it would make the design much more appealing. Obviously this isn’t a simple change as it affects body panels and supporting structures, but the R2 and R3 designs aren’t finished yet.

Maybe someone with much better skills than I have can modify a picture as an example to aid in this discussion.

The vertical headlight design has become Rivian's prime identifying feature. I did not like it at first, but it has grown on me. If they were to change the headlight design to horizontal, the Rivian would lose it's primary unique design feature and look like everything else out on the road. It would be like Alfa Romeo deleting their horse collar grill that sets them apart from all others.

Look at the comments in that thread. A lot of…I’m not a huge fan or my partner doesn’t like the vertical headlights. And those are the comments of people on a Rivian forum that are bigger fans and more willing to let things slide than the average Rivian buyer.

Yes, horizontal headlights do make it more generic looking but it also makes it more appealing to the masses. In the end Rivian needs to sell more vehicles to survive.

That post has a poll; look at the poll numbers. A 22.9% minority of people express a preference for change. Of that minority, how many bought a Rivian despite a styling element they think they would like to see changed?

Sure but a poll on a Rivian forum doesn’t really reflect the general car buyer.

It's a Rivian "signature element", so we'll see the same head lights across all platforms except the vans.

True but what others are saying is also true. It is as signature is the kidney beans grill of BMW.

I thought it was bit cartoonish at first but now I'm used to it and Rivian without the vertical lamps wouldn't be a Rivian....

I've been in the "BMW family" of owners for 25+ years. Every time BMW changes the kidney grille shape/layout, people said they hated it, sales would suffer, existing owners would revolt to other brands, etc. etc. etc.

It's an iconic, instantly recognizable visual brand signature.

BMW sells more cars today than they ever did. I doubt the headlight design is disuading serious buyers in droves.

As long as they don’t make the stadium lights gigantic like BMW made their kidney grilles, I think it’s fine as it is and iconic.

Yeaaaa-nope. Vertical is distinctive. Horizontal looks like every other front light bar vehicle.
