I learned today that the frunk can be opened while the rest of the truck is locked. The gear tunnel, the bed, and tonneau are all inaccessible.

Anyone else notice this? I filed a bug.

Are you saying yours opens when your phone and fob are not in range?

Good question. My phone was in range. Not sure if you're guessing it's by design, but definitely not what I would expect especially since nothing else can be opened.

Mine opens too, but I assumed it was because it “sees” my phone. Honestly I like it. If it works without seeing my phone, then THAT is a serious bug.

My initial reaction is that I don't like it because the truck is presenting itself as locked, but I could see it both ways. However, if that was really the intention then why not allow the parts to be opened as well?

Mine won’t open unless all 4 doors are unlocked, which I find odd…

Additionally, I locked the truck for a hike yesterday and didn’t know wife had left Gear tunnel door down…still let me lock the truck…came back and it was wide open. Guess who got blamed…?. “Well, I thought you’d come back and close it yourself, since you love the truck more than me…”. Y’all know the story…

My car with proximity unlock allows the rear hatch to open Via its button on the handle, despite the vehicle being locked.

Rivian is probably the same, if you have phone as a key enabled and your phone in range.

Somewhat related. The Owners Manual shows a process to manually open the frunk (p. 166 in the version I downloaded). You don't have to open the frunk to jump start (unlike Tesla), those wires are behind the tow hitch cover.

On mine I can't open the frunk unless the vehicle is unlocked even if I have my phone on me.

Additionally, if the vehicle is locked and I double press on the fob to open the frunk, it will open but the button on the bumper to close the frunk doesn't work unless I first unlock the vehicle. This is quite annoying. That button should allow you to close the opened funk regardless of if the vehicle is locked or unlocked. I shouldn't have to unlock the vehicle to close the frunk and the re-lock the vehicle. I just want to double click the fob to open the frunk and put the fob in my pocket so I have my hands free.

You can manually close the frunk.

Correct, but I find myself frequently pushing the button and quickly grabbing my bags while it closes, as I wouldn't have a free hand to manually close the frunk after I grab my bags from the frunk.

I also whish the emergency button inside the frunk would also close the frunk as it's easier to hit that with your hands full rather than the button on the bumper.

I have noticed sometimes the vehicle seems to be asleep. And it won't open the gear tunnel. But the frunk seems to have a higher level of authority to wake from sleep. Once it is "awake" then the gear tunnel access restores.

While that'd be handy I'd think the emergency button bypasses the computer and simply sends power to unlatch the trunk so as to ensure anyone trapped doesn't need the computer's permission to open the hood or tunnel or tailgate doors.

This thread made me curious so I tested mine and it will not open while vehicle is locked and phone not in proximity.

The truck did start making some clicking noises and a faint chirp when I pushed the bumper button . I’m not sure what that is all about because I have gear guard turned off at home and I didn’t see any of the screen animation indicating that it was capturing video.
