So Rivian gave me the option for carrier home delivery. My guide has been on holiday and I receieved no response to my questions.

Rivian wants me to mail them the check before they will even schedule the carrier. Does that sound reasonable? Essentially buying a vehicle sight-unseen?

What happens if my R1S shows up and it has damage or issues? Can I refuse delivery? Do they keep my $1,000 delivery fee? That $1,000 is on top of the $1,800 "destination" charge.

Did a Rivian rep show up with the carrier during delivery? I'm four hours from the Atlanta SC... they drive all the way down from there?

Yes, mailing the check before is normal. I believe that’s standard even for R1’s picked up at an SC.

Yes, you can reject the vehicle. You will either have to get a new one at market price or wait for your current one to be repaired. Mine had several scratches and dings in the paint that Rivian found earlier that day pre-delivery. I was told it could be repaired “locally”, however it turns out it meant local to the SC (3 hours away from me). You will be responsible for getting the vehicle there and picking it up, though you’ll get a rental vehicle through Enterprise. Rivian reserves “Intermediate Electric” vehicles, which are Nissan Leaf, Kia Niro, Chevy Bolt, etc. you can swap to an ICE vehicle, but you have to cover any cost >$75/day (cost of Intermediate Electric) unless Enterprise gives you a complimentary upgrade. Mine has been in the shop for 2 weeks, most of that waiting for work to be done by an auto body shop. Rivian does not do their own body work, it is all contracted.

Rivian will deliver it on their own flatbed truck. The driver is also the delivery specialist and they are an SC employee.

I don’t know about the delivery fee. Mine was waived because getting my truck was such a disaster —a long story that I won’t get into. I suggest calling the SC to understand how they handle the fee if you reject it. Surely they will work with you if there is a major item that was missed on the PDI which you discover upon delivery.

My driver came all the way from the factory in Normal, IL to Philadelphia with the truck loaded on a small flatbed. Payment is due before they will schedule the delivery date/time. My delivery driver was great. Arrived on time and was fully versed in all facets of the vehicle. They take you out for a drive with a vehicle, help get your phone paired, and go over all the key features and functions.

I paid with a ACH payment transfer from my bank a few days before delivery. Doing it that way there's a record of it and if you do not sign for delivery at the time it gets there they have to give you your money back. There are federal banking laws protecting you here, and unless Rivian goes out of business as a company between the time you send your money and get your truck you have very little to worry about.

Rivian cannot keep your payment legally if you do not sign the delivery paperwork. Even then contractually you are guaranteed a 7 day return period so therefore you are further protected because that is in the contract again you are protected by Federal law. I know that paying for things sight unseen is an uneasy feeling, especially when it's this expensive, but Rivian is a multi billion dollar organization and as such wouldn't risk nickel and diming people on individual sales by keeping their money without delivering a truck.

I had a Rivian rep deliver my truck and she went over everything pretty well. Showed me all the menus and how to work it and then took me on a test drive. Truthfully though as an active contributor here I already knew pretty much everything about how it worked before it ever hit my driveway. I think it's pretty intuitive and has a short learning curve and you'll be fine.

We did a money transfer from the bank to Rivian the day before delivery. Everything went just fine. The delivery driver was very knowledgeable, we were quite satified with the delivery expeirence.

Awesome, thanks guys.

Just one update; looks like Rivian is no longer allowing checks handed over to delivery rep and must do the standard check mail in before hand.

Carrier home delivery is a 3rd party that will Only drop off and hand you keys. They are not Rivian employees. The actual Home Delivery step is what you want to select

Oh that's a big difference. I had no "home delivery" option, just pickup at SC or "carrier delivery". No wonder why they wanted the check first.

EDIT: found this on Rivian web-site:

Rivian R1T R1S Home Delivery questions for those that have done it 1693922899791

So looks like a Rivian rep does come out.
