Either tesla wall charger, or only GEN 3 Mobile charger will work.
Tesla Gen 1 Mobile Charger works great with my Gen2 R1T Quad. Tesla Gen 2 Mobile Connector also works, but needs to be power cycled every time to get it to work with our Rivian, so not ideal, but works in an emergency. Tesla Universal Wall Connector works great as well.

That’s interesting. I have Heard and read that both gen 1 and gen 2 with current NACS Rivian do not work but maybe Rivian has figured out the communication path to sync with those 5 to 8-year-old Mobile chargers. Once I get an R2 or my local neighbor in the next couple weeks I’ll give it a try.

I wouldn’t poo-poo WiFi in a charger.
My Tesla Universal was error coding (flashing red lights) describing a grounding issue. Also, the handle was quite hot.
I retightened all the connections btwn the charger and circuit panel(two were just a bit loose). When that didn’t solve it, I connected the charger to WiFi and it did and immediate software update.
Problem solved.

Here is what I did as my concerns were mostly about protection from weather, ease of access, and to block the green charging light at night.

Later, the box was painted to match the siding and it almost becomes invisabile.

An EVSE is just a fancy on/off switch, the actual charger is inside the Rivian. Any level 2 EVSE will work with any BEV or PHEV as long as the connector matches, or you have an adapter. I am using a ChargePoint with the J1772 connector and the provided Rivian NACS adapter, works perfectly. Have used this same EVSE with my Taycan, PHEV XM, PHEV Cayenne, G580 and now the R1S with zero issues.

I love my Grizzl-E. Key difference in my opinion is that the cable is more flexible when it's below freezing.

They are all the same. Buy whatever is cheap. Ignore useless features like wifi, since the car gives you all the info you need. I have a Rivian charger because it was free, but had several issues with it. And the wifi has been 100% useless.
WiFi is designed to facilitate future firmware updates.....hence, it will always be useless - until its not

And yet my ancient dumb EVSEs still work with everything. You don’t need firmware for a device as simple and dumb as an EVSE unless it’s overly complicated. Circular problem that creates itself. The J1772 protocol is incredibly simple.

I’ve used a Tesla Wall Connector since I purchased my R1S in ‘23, no problems. The R2 is natively equipped with a NACS port which allows it to plug into a Tesla supercharger. It should be no different with a home Tesla charger.

Check out the State of Charge YT channel. The guy does extremely detailed tests on all varieties of chargers, and includes things like cable bend and freeze tests, extremely thorough.

As stated before, most chargers are fancy on/off switches for 240v power, and most will be absolutely fine for what you need.

I went with an Emporia Pro + Vue, mainly because I have 100A service and installing a charger in my city with such low capacity requires active power management. So I now have a full 48/60amp charger and it'll automatically throttle if the load from the rest of my home starts to rise.
