The Gen 3s (as you may know) have an access control setting, and some people have reported it defaulting back to "Only Tesla" after an update. I could see a hotel not paying attention, leaving it in that mode or simply configuring a Tesla branded product to work with Tesla cars , not considering a non-Tesla vehicle using it with an adapter (and the TWC needing to be set to "All Vehicles" for it to work in that scenario).
Tesla can be prevented from charging if they are not authorized. I've never heard of a situation in real life where all Tesla could charge and all non-Tesla were prevented. Even though it's possible, to configure it this way, I think you're worrying about nothing. There is no reason to set it that way and I highly doubt "Tesla Only" is the default setting after a re-boot.

It sounds like more made-up, divisive BS to me. Nobody cares what brand of EV you drive, except for brand fanatics, of which there seems to be more than I would expect here on the Rivian Forums.

Multiple people who owned both Tesla and other EVs reported that some firmware installs, and subsequent reboots resulted in the settings being changed, and on several EV sites, from Mach-E, to BMW-i models, there have been reports of Tesla chargers not working at some specific locations, where they worked at (a majority) of others.

I'm not discussing this as - you implied, in your bizarre, paranoid response - some kind of anti-Tesla propaganda, just as a courtesy, that IF you were traveling, it's possible you could wind up at a hotel with a TWC/destination L2 that MIGHT not work with your non-Tesla EV + adapter.

My TMC (Tesla Mobile) that came with the M3P we owned would NOT charge our 4xe with the A2Z adapter but the latter did work at a local hotel with Tesla destination charger, i.e., there might be some specific firmware issues, and if you're planning a road trip, you might factor that in if you're relying on a Tesla branded charger (plus adapter) to get you to your next stop.

I've never had a problem charging at hotels with CCS or Tesla connectors. To be fair, I've only travelled in various Tesla. I just don't see the problem.

I also don't see a lot of problems that do exist. On the other hand I've seen credible reports of local Tesla destination chargers not working on a non-Tesla, then I used them on my own Tesla, before I had the Rivian.

Keep in mind that Tesla didn't even have the Ver. 3 Wall Connector with the ability to limit charging access to certain VIN# or vehicle types until recently. How long ago are you talking?

Versions 1 and 2 are "dumb" connectors.

I have a version 2 in my garage and it can be configured to Tesla only or all EVs. The default is for all EVs and it has stayed that way through each firmware update. I've never had to change it and it charges my Rivian just fine.

Really? I thought I had two version 2 Wall Connectors, but they must be version 1 because they don't have that function, at least not that I saw documented. Is it configured with the dip switches or is it wi-fi enabled? Mine don't do wi-fi.

There is a little confusion in this thread as OP mention hotel chargers which are L2 using Tesla high power wall connectors (HPWCs) and then some replies refer to superchargers. A few important points about charging at hotels:

- You won't need the Tesla app to use a Tesla HPWC at a hotel, only superchargers.
- You will likely need a NACS>>J1772 adapter to use them. Tesla makes HPWCs with J1772 connectors, and some with integrated adapters but they are not nearly as popular. These are much less expensive than the NACS >> CCS adapters.
- As was mentioned, check with the hotel to see if the Tesla station is restricted to Tesla vehicles only. I think this is generally also rare, but it would be pretty lousy to depend on being able to charge at your destination only to find that you can't.
This is the best response based upon OP question on using a Tesla charger (L2) at a hotel. Get the NACS to J1772 adapter and carry it in your vehicle. I've used this at hotels 3 or 4 times, its plug n play with no integration required via app.

Mine is done via WiFi. I believe mine is version 2, but I may be wrong. It was purchased in October 2020. I think that is before version 3.
