We will take delivery of our R1S Adventure quad motor in the February - March 2024 window. Perhaps we'll get lucky in the next sweepstakes at the end of October and move up a bit more. But either way it's now s00n.

The owners manual online is very superficial beyond telling us not to electrocute ourselves. Not a word about programming seat memory, and navigation instructions are limited to saying to touch the navigation icon on the screen, etc.

I'm pretty confident I can drive the R1S home without running into other folks or their stuff. But where do I turn to school myself thoroughly in my soon to be new R1S?

I bet the answer will be something so obvious that I'll feel dumb for not knowing, but I'd appreciate any guidance you can provide.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Your delivery person should be able to answer any questions at delivery

Thank you for the prompt reply, and I'm sure I'll have questions which can be answered at delivery. However, this assumes that everything I need to know now or in the future will occur to me to ask during the excitement of delivery . . . and leaves me still asking to whom or what do I turn the next day and the days and weeks after that.
But, again, thanks for your helpful suggestion at least at the outset.

Use the search function on the forums, the chat feature in the app, your guides’s phone number, the rivian customer support number, YouTube, Facebook, the very detailed owners manual— all are great for ongoing support!

Maybe it was because I had spent a lot of time here soaking up information from very smart people who were kind enough to share as much as they did about their early deliveries, but by the time I actually took delivery I felt like actually using my truck each day was pretty intuitive.

Of course you will have questions, but between the forums and Rivian you will be ok!

As for navigation, setting a destination is easy, anyone with a phone/computer should be able to figure it out. And if a road is closed, and the navigation doesn't recognize it, you just pull out your phone and start using Waze. At least thats what I do, I haven't figured out how to get the Rivian nav to re-route for closed roads yet. Maybe it will be the time you get yours. Or maybe I am just an idiot that defaults back to programs/apps I am familiar with.

Don't overthink it. You have other cars and figured them out. A guide will help you get oriented for about an hour, any more than that you probably won't remember anyway. Two things to remember, holding down the left steering wheel button can cycle between nav/tire pressures/effeciency on the dashboard. Also, on the center console screen, there is a bell you can hit for notifications.

I learned most of it on this forum TBH. I was going to do the same with my wife's i4 but that forum isn't that much fun so I abandoned that plan. It also doesn't seem like the software changes much so there's really no need to keep up with it.

I have often wondered why a simple simulator of the main screen could not be posted on the site. Would seem a good way to become familiar with the menus.

My delivery specialist spent about 35-40 mins with me and went over almost everything. Like others have mentioned I gained a lot of knowledge from other members here and YouTube. This one was a good one.

If you want full deep dives into the vehicle, watch a Outofspec's rivian videos on YouTube.

I have a video coming out tomorrow 9/3 on the infotainment. I would suggest keeping a running list of questions that pop up then you can come back here and get answers. The Rivian community is a wonderful community and there are a lot of very knowledgeable folks on these forums.

Start a written notebook of questions you want answered. If you don't find the answers before you pick up your R1, the deliver guy will answer any questions left.
