How is the R2 interior too busy but the Bronco isnt?
I tired to elaborate on that in post 8 above. Honestly, I think the comment was mostly focused on the seats, and they do have a lot going on with the revels, stitching, headrest design etc. R2 seats seem to be more "simple".

Yeah I can understand and appreciate her perspective - the seats on the R1 were definitely busier than what I’m used to in previous vehicles (Japanese/European mostly) but they do grow on you. I really like them now.

hang on to the reservation - you’ve got a while to wait, the deposit is no skin off your nose, and it’s fully refundable if you decide a different car is the right choice. The empty showroom is something that I expected back when I purchased an R1T since people were still waiting for a long time to get one and there wasn’t a lot of inventory to go around. I’d have hoped that Rivian would be beyond that by now. In any case, the vehicle really is a wonderful experience and the service centers/showrooms have some growing up to do. If you need both to go hand in hand, hopefully the extra two year runway on the R2 will give them time to satisfy the requirement.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies. These are high quality problems to have!, I just feel like I made my job harder LOL. I'll let it be for now, and maybe the press car will loop around again and we can go see it. I also think Rivian would be wise to keep interest up, with some kind of press event, or email to owners, or showing the car in more colours - something to keep the buzz going, 12-18 months is a long time for people waiting or interested in cars, many things can happen (including new competitors).

I see you’re from the Island. If you happen to be passing through North Van and would like to take a look at an R1T for reference, shoot me a note. It’ll be two years for me in March, so lots of experience to discuss the pros/cons, and I’m still super excited about this vehicle (as is my wife). I find current owners are way better salespeople than they have on staff!

Or, the Service Center in Richmond (easy access if coming from the ferry) generally has way more options to look at from a colour perspective, wheel choices, etc. There likely isn’t a salesperson there to help, but sounds like you didn’t get that experience either! I’d be willing to bet you might be able to get someone there to open up a vehicle for you to take a quick look at though. Especially if you bring donuts?

R1 is much bigger than the R2 and even R3. As others have said I'd let this experience simmer on the back burner and then later next year when the R2s are more available to see, touch, and drive, that's the time to get her out to look at it.

I'd then go something along the lines of "This seems much smaller and more our style than that big one we saw last year in the showroom."

I'd also pay attention to what she uses Car Play for. Currently Rivian has Apple Music, Pandora, Spotify, Audible Books, and Bluetooth streaming built in. Rumor has it Sirius XM is coming. Rivian has built in GPS and Maps built in. Rivian will soon be getting Youtube and streaming built in. Rivian has phone handling built in. Rivian does not have text messages built in (should one really be texting while driving anyay).

A lot of the functionality in Car Play is being added in another form in a lot of other ways is more elegant and improving with each monthly software update. Although Apple Music, for example, isn't perfect yet, it's made some good improvements in the few months since it's been out.

There is a learning curve with the software in these vehicles but you'd be surprised how fast it is to learn. As I've told people, "if you can operate your mobile phone, you can operate this vehicle."

My suggestion is to not give up on the R2 dream. That car is still 1+years away and none of us has had a chance to really touch, feel, and drive it. In the mean time, keep on being adventurous and draw up on those differences between the R1 and R2.

Dude….Any Rivian, pristine, welcoming showroom or not, is better than a Bronco Sport. Rented one of those in Puerto Rico and I was turned off faster than watching a supermodel take a sh**.

I never heard that saying before. I laughed.

Eloquent Dave LOL. The Bronco is fine for the associated cost, though it is not really interesting to drive.

Is that the bronco sport? They are pretty compact. The R2 is much lower than the r1s and smaller in all dimensions. They just look similar. The R2 is still bigger than the sport though.

Yep, the Sport. I've compared the dimensions and the R2 is actually lower, but about 12" longer which is fine. It would offer a bit more storage than the Bronco which would be welcome. For 2 people and a dog R2 is a perfect size I think. Does anyone have a good photo of the seats for R2? Everyone seems to point at the dash.

We're looking to take a car across Canada in 2027
Unless you're sticking to the trans-canada and are using tesla superchargers, that's not a simple trip via EV

Well, we'd generally have to stick to that highway given the sheer size of the country, but we would do dekes north and south to smaller places that we want to see. The charge network is getting better all the time, and there are some who've made big trips like that already.

Waiting 2+ years is tough for me. Getting in and out of a Tesla M3 L/R (great car) is a pain at 78 yoa. Looked at the R2 in Pasadena, liked both it and the R3. Drove a Chevy Equinox EV—non starter. Looking at the BMW ix50 and Audi Q6 (not yet out.) Don’t love with the BMW’s rear styling, but do like the interior, range, and performance. Going to test drive that one soon, maybe get a mildly used one in the $60k range. Any thoughts out there?
