I’ll probably be sticking with the XR black. 70 for the back sides and sliding glass, 45 for the front sides, but the unsure what I wanna put on the roof. 70 or 55-
That is questionable advice. 99% of the heat blockage comes from the IR, and the IR is blocked equally in all shades. The blocked IR/heat is absorbed by the tint and conducts that heat to the glass. Too much conduction might crack the glass, but the conduction should be virtually identical on 50% and 10% and 90%, since those transmission numbers are for the visible and not IR wavelengths.
There’s a lot of weird science + marketing with this stuff. Many brands with multiple segments. I just got somewhat familiar with Xpel and that was more than enough for me. Just watch the various materials, layers, etc. while shopping and roll your best dice.

I also see lots of claims of your warranty being voided on the roof glass if you tint it. No clue what I’ll end up doing here but the heat from the roof is a concern of mine. I’m in a desert climate.

Have there been many reports from Rivian owners of cracked glass after tinting?

I don’t see many first hand reports. It is usually something like: “My cousins, neighbor, sisters, ex- husbands glass cracked because their tint heated up the glass!”

OP-sharing my experience as a R1 owner. I'm not a fan of the glass roof but have two cars with them. I had to get over that if I wanted a Rivian. My tint guy installed ceramic tint on all the windows including the windshield. This helped a lot. But, he refused to put anything on the roof. Something about heat trapping. So, I got a shade for both areas. It stays on during the summer months. I wish there was an option for a metal or CF roof. All the best.

I still think that deleting the glass roof in the R2 would have been a good cost-cutting opportunity. I guess they just consider this part of the brand?

I think the best Information on this is Rivian themselves. In the gear shop, they link you to Xpel which lists as an option to tin the glass roof. If Rivian thought it was such a hazard, they would not offer that in their own shop.
