Just to throw out another scenario - I’m a Dec 2019 R1S LE preorder. I’m supposedly a June/July delivery (although I hadn’t had any guide contact). I got the same email on Monday and interestingly my account now showed a guide (which wasn’t there Sunday and hasn’t reached out yet) ??‍ maybe all news won’t be bad …

It could be location, maybe December 2019 is very early for the New Jersey area where Feb 2019 puts you further down the list in the Bay area.

I’m sure part of what they are doing is trying to keep the SCs in all areas active. That gets more vehicles in those areas and keeps from burning money paying idle employees.

I currently have a T configured, but am thinking about moving to an S.

I spoke with my Guide yesterday. He said said they are currently ramping up the R1S and they are on the line. He said the majority are customer orders because they didn’t do an employee program for the S.

He seemed pretty sure that I would have the S by Christmas if I switch, but also said that could change. I am an August 20 reservation with a May/June delivery which has been held since I am thinking of switching.

He said his take about being pushed to 23 were for those that had Nov-December orders. If they got pushed by a month, it would move into next year.

Of course this could all be a story in his end, but he certainly isn’t pushing me to keep my R1T and not switch to the S.

I was wondering if they have BM - perhaps the first R1S models made will be BM rather than my FE (or FG). But who knows? Whatever the reason, some clarity would be quite welcome, TONY C.

If they can’t get out at least the LE R1S I am not sure how it is anything other than a choice to screw half the reservation base with the hope they get a bunch of cancellations.

If I'm Rivian and I make this decision - not that I want them to because I've got an R1S preorder I want delivered - but the justification to push the R1S could be to focus on delivering

- Efficiency / cost savings. It has to be easier to do one vehicle than 2
- In areas where there's competition to not fall too far behind Ford
- Higher margin products - could the R1T drive more profit than an R1S?
- What I have parts for - maybe things are there for the R1T and they're having supplier issues generating inventory for the R1s.

I don't know if any of these things are true but there could be business reasons, as much as I may dislike them, to focus on the R1T vs. just "screw half the reservation base." Incidentally, I don't think it's half. I think numbers I had seen way back when was like 2:1 R1T: R1S.

No, I want the R1S, no way I change unless GM makes an electric Tahoe and can get it to me before the R1S. I would consider an electric Grand Cherokee as well if they make one with decent specs.

I’m in a position where it is a want and not need. I’m retired, fill up the tank in my current Grand Cherokee once every 4 or 5 weeks and have no immediate need for a new vehicle.

If they'd like me add an R1T LE reservation in addition to my R1S now to take delivery soon... I'd do it. But switch and miss getting the R1S LE? No.

Me too. Oct 6, 2019. No guide. In December 2021 got the email with a Oct-Dec 2022 delivery window

What happens to your place in line (not like that really makes much difference nowadays anyway) and pricing? Do you get pre March 1 pricing if you switch from the S to a T?

You need to add the BMW iX50 - it is out now. It is a X5 sized EV, but like everything else, it is a 9 month to year long wait if you order one today.

Car has decent real world range of +290 miles, so it has potential. I was able to secure one that delivers in a. couple of weeks after the ordering person walked away due to life changes. I am going to keep it for a while, and sell once my R1T is ready.

Regardless, it is a shame that Rivian is having supply chain issues and cannot ramp up as they wanted because they have lost any head start they got by introducing their cars for sale in 2019.

Would love to hear your thoughts once you take delivery. The tech looks amazing.

Take this with however many grains of salt you want, but I just boarded a Chicago to LA flight and saw that one of the other passengers had a unique First Mile sweatshirt on. I was an unapologetic stalker and introduced myself as a Nov 2018 pre-order holder. She said that she works for Rivian “off and on” (not sure exactly what that means) and knew about Tony’s email when I mentioned it. She asked me whether I was a T or S preorder holder, and when I said “S”, she started sadly shaking her head. I asked if I should be prepared for a 2023 delivery (context: I was originally given a March/April 2022 window) and she said…yes.

I had my first mile today drive and my Rivian “host” has a R1S on preorder and doesn’t expect it to be ready until 2023… and that’s an employee…
