Bosch has been making electric motors for a very long time and is as reliable as it gets. At this point, I prefer having the Bosch motors in my truck because I know they’re as good as it gets. I expect the Enduro motors to prove high quality and reliable as well, but Bosch’s track record is exceptional.
Rivian warranty is a year longer with Bosch motors than the new in house Enduro equipped trucks.

A 1,000 + HP Quad Enduro powered truck would be awesome. I see a lot of owners trading in to own one. 2.2 seconds 0-60 time?

I have a quad for exactly a year and 17.5K miles. If it was totaled tomorrow, I would replace it with exactly the same configuration. Wouldn't be surprised if Rivian replaced the Bosch at some point but for now, they carry a better warranty, Bosch as a company isn't going anywhere, and the power is incredible (admittedly, haven't driven a dual motor)

Not me. Good for bragging rights but not useful. Would rather have better low speed off-road behavior and charging curve.

There’s zero chance it would be 2.2. If the 700hp PDM is 3.5, and the 835hp QM is 3.0, the “1000hp quad enduro” will probably plateau around 2.6-2.7 IMO. Traction will be a bigger issue.

Let's say my R1T (Quad Large) got totaled or bought-back on the day they offered an Enduro Quad at the same time as the Bosch Quad, and just called it the "Quad Performance," with the same $5000 price increase (over Quad) as "Performance" has on the dual. And offered me "matching pricing" where I could just take a straight-across swap for a Quad, pay $8000 less for a Dual, pay $3000 less for a Dual Performance, or pay $5000 more for the new Quad Performance w/ Enduro.

I'd still take the Bosch Quad.

*MAYBE* if the introduction of the Enduro Quad also brought with it a new "Max Max" pack that increased the battery pack size to fill the underbody space as was originally thought (not just the "chemistry change 16% capacity-in-same-size,) and the Bosch Quad still wasn't able to upgrade to it, I'd consider it along with the "Max Max" pack Enduro Quad. But it would take the actual physically larger pack to get me to switch away from Bosch Quad.

Rivian needs to ditch the quad motor and go to dual motor with locking differentials (they can bundle it with the "offroad package"). This will simplify manufacturing. They get nearly as much power out of a dual motor performance tune. From a business standpoint having two totally different powertrains for a product at a company that is losing $$$ hand over fist is complete insanity. If I was an big shot investor I would be hammering them to consolidate the lineup.

Let's be honest, Rivian was going balls-to-the-wall to get the R1T/S to market and get investors pumped. Now that the IPO is behind them its time to focus on cost management, and that involves both vertical integration and rearchitecture of the battery pack, powertrain, power management, and subaseemblies. It is going to be a long road to profitability but they do seem to be putting great efforts towards this, at least I got that impression from the Q3 call.

I have a quad and I do hardcore offroading (at least as far as this truck is concerned) and the quad works but it sucks compared to a simple Chevy colorado with 200HP and locking differentials. If you don't think I know what I'm talking about--then you are right to be a sceptic because this is the internet after all--then I invite you to look at the scratches on my vehicle and all the rock rash on my wheels lol.

I have an early order for an R1S and I will be going dual motor next time. I want to see some lockers in it first though. Oh and Rivian needs to get rid of the silly auto-presenting door handles and get my keyfob to work on the first try (not the 10th). Still a rad product though!

I think you’re greatly overestimating how many people care about off-road performance. I’ll take an extra 135hp over a locking differential I’ll never use, sorry. Basically every manufacturer has a halo car / trim, which is the quad motor for Rivian. Should Porsche get rid of the 911 turbo S because the 911 turbo is close enough in power too?

And you are overestimating how many people, besides yourself, want and need to get into a pissing contest with the CT-driving Joneses next door. How often in your daily use do you actually feel the existing 835 hp and sub-4s 0-60 is inadequate?

Also, this was the harness from a 2022 R1T. This should be simplified in the 2024 refresh.

(I have pictures of most of the Rivian components from visiting Munro & Associates. They had only recently gotten a sample of the Enduro unit to tear down, which is why I got some pictures of that too.)

Man, Rivian really did overengineer the hell out of these things, didn't they?

Yeah, I had a good discussion with one of the Munro associates and he showed me some of the other harnesses that used the zone system that Rivian is going to. It should be a lot simpler. But, he also pointed out that the way Rivian did it is actually very typical. It's just that newer designs are going towards zone architecture.

That tells me a lot.

Any speculation why this is the case? as I doubt Rivian has any oficial word for why the Enduro's warranty is 1 year less.

I love the envelope that my R1T QM has.

If it was more off road focused....lower powered dual motor with lockers for example...it would have lowered the appeal of the vehicle to me.

On the same token, if it was a 1000hp QM with summer performance or even all season low profile tires and was more slanted to pure street use....it would have lowered in appeal to me.

I have vehicles more situated to each end of that spectrum, but both are more extreme than what I would drive everyday for work, etc...

So the Rivian gets to 75% in each direction on that equation and as such....has been my most perfect vehicle to date.

So while some would rather it be a rock crawler or mud machine and others would prefer it be a weekend track truck.....I think it is perfect as a closest to those things an all purpose machine can be....at least today.

well said!!

I agree that my Rivian R1S hit the right spots for my use case as well. I've been with groups with more capable offroad vehicles and there has been 1 or 2 instances where I have been unable to do the same obstacles. Fine I take the bypass.

Then they are driving back home in their vehicles while I am enjoying a few hours of driving back home. Even 2-3hr drive backs in a late model Jeep Wrangler was too uncomfortable for my butt and tastes. The closest thing was a 2022 Land Rover. But I like Rivian's interior space/design better.

Anyways to each its own.
