Is the Gear Tunnel Shuttle useful without the Camp Kitchen?

Just a quick post/poll on who has ordered a Gear Tunnel Shuttle without the camp kitchen. I was thinking it would be useful for coolers or tool chests or heavy things that might be a pain to reach for but am having second thoughts. Would welcome the forum folks ideas who have also ordered/received this option?

I am thinking of taking the camp kitchen out when it is not needed and keeping my golf clubs in that spot.

I don't have a camp kitchen, and I was bummed when I found out that I couldn't fit my skis in there. That being said, I love the gear tunnel. At the moment I use it for things I need often, but not all the time. I have a booster seat (For when my younger child is with me), my gym bag, etc. It is nice to not have that stuff thrown on the seat or in the bed, as both the seat and the bed have their own uses.

I’d find it useful when the Camp Kitchen is removed. The middle of the Gear Tunnel is hard to reach and my current strategy to fetch things from there is to send the kids in.

Great for golf clubs, and I even throw my laptop bad in there when going to get work done in coffee shops.

Just bought a refrigerator for it but haven’t tried it yet.

I keep my mtb gear in the tunnel (shoes, protection, helmet, googles, etc.) then use the tunnel door for putting gear on, super convenient. I think having a shuttle may be more of a hassle.

Use the other side to store folding chairs.

I don't have the shuttle and find the tunnel very useful. There is also a way to get stuff out of the tunnel from the middle back seat too. The whole isn't big enough to crawl in it from there. But you can grab blankets, drinks and food and things like that.

If you’ve ever tried pulling something like a full cooler across carpet or a rubber mat, and didn’t enjoy it, you’ll find the gear shuttle useful.

I do have the kitchen optioned, but expect the shuttle to be useful when thst isn’t in place. not having to reach shoulder deep to grab a grocery bag that fell over seems appealing.

the kitchen itself is exactly twice the price of the shuttle, if you remove the cost of the shuttle from the kitchen pricing since the shuttle is included when ordering the kitchen.

I’d probably find it useful but not planning on ordering. Now when groceries or other items roll/slide to the middle I’ve gotta send a kid to crawl in to get it. I’ll get a broom if it happens when they aren’t home.

I think it would be more useful having two smaller shuttles that pull out each side. The shuttle being full-width means two things:

• Since it only come out one side, you can't use it at all if you are parked up against a wall on the passenger side.
• If you are in a parking lot, you can probably only pull it out a little way before it would hit another vehicle.

These were the main reasons I didn't bother. I'm thinking about making some wooden sleds on wheels or slides or something similar to the ones they put in the service vehicle. Each would only be half the width, so you could still easily use them.

Yep 1500 vs 5000. It's all relative.

I'm betting somewhere down the road the OEM will come out with a split shuttle, makes great sense. But then again that's probably why they won't cause a lot about Rivian isn't making sense.

I don't think the shuttle will be that useful except for specific use cases. The shape of the tunnel means most square things won't fit through the opening when you pull out the shuttle and it will take some cargo space away.

Personally I keep a bag with tools in one side of the tunnel and then on the other it will depend on the activity, but things I want to access quickly. In the center that is harder to access I keep things like my recovery kit, shovel or other items that I will need less frequently (hopefully)
