I’ve owned Teslas for a decade so have a gen 1 80a Tesla Wall Connector. For my R1S I got the Teslatap mini 80a because it wasn’t that much more than the 60a, and will benefit my friends with Ford Lightnings if they ever visit and need a charge. It is expensive but very solid and well made. I have also used it with my Model Y mobile connector and with a Tesla Universal wall connector that hadn’t been fully configured yet. It’s been useful.

That being said, most Level 2 public chargers are J1772 so directly compatible with the R1S and R1T. You only need an adapter for use with Tesla destination chargers, which may be more frequent at some hotels, inns and restaurants. Though some destination charger installations consist of a mix of Tesla and J1772 chargers - in future I expect Universal (Tesla and J1772) to be more common.

The point I was trying to make was that the NACS adapters we are going to receive from Rivian are for DC fast charging only. The L2 adapters that are being discussed in this thread are for AC charging only and they generally were designed before J3400 was approved.
Dang, so just making sure I understand, even though Teslas pin layout is the same for their fast vs slow chargers, the adapter we're getting can't/won't work for destination AC chargers? I figured the adapter would pass whatever it was getting through it and the truck would see the which pins had voltage and which didn't and it would just work. Not the case?

Not the case. You will need 2 adapters. Rivian will be providing an NACS DCFC adapter for use with compatible Tesla Superchargers. You are on your own to obtain an adapter for L2 AC charging at a Tesla destination charger.

nope. The adapter we are getting will only work with DC power, you need another adapter (not provided by Rivian) for AC charging. There is going to be a lot of confusion on this.

Unfortunately, current generation Rivians (or any other BEV aside from Tesla) don't have the hardware to do what you described earlier.

Not as far as I’m aware. Usually they are free for patrons.

As @Cosmacelf stated, usually, they are free and will automatically start charging your vehicle when you plug in. For the ones that you have to pay for, within the Tesla app on your smartphone, there is a "Charge your other EV" section, which includes the following help.
