Most likely. My truck is in a garage and at 7:30am the cabin temp is around 70-72 with the AC set on Auto at 69. Hardly seems necessary to go balls to the wall on the compressor as I walk up to it.

I'll try manually turning AC off when I get out of the truck and see if I get the same when I walk up later.
Same

Yep, same problem. Started with 2023.22.0. Contacting Rivian support is useless other than another data point of the problem. Their only response: make a service appointment, which is a 4 month wait. Which won’t solve the problem anyway. It needs a software update to fix the new “normal” to go back to the old normal. It wasn’t broken.

It is the most annoying “fix” I’ve seen in 10 months of updates. The internal testing bar is low before a release is sent. We are the beta testers. The problem is there’s no going back once you install.
I’ve had this horrendous sounding AC since I picked up my R1S a month ago. The update actually made the rapid over ramping more gentle upon awakening but it still screams at full tilt in the Texas heat.

Same, under 72 degrees in my garage at 7:30am. Climate set to 69 on Auto. Walk out and suddenly reverberating around my garage is a captive weed eater giving it hell.

Really REALLY appreciate @Zoidz letting us all know that he is right and we are all imagining things. Thanks! Helps bunches!
Not sure what your problem is? Please repost my comment in which you claim I said someone was imagining things. More likely, you are imagining things I never said.

Well, you asked so...

@Zoidz says
" the noise *might* be slightly louder but it's hard to tell."
"I will also mention behavior that I would expect to be completely normal."
"running near it's top speed. It's not annoying to me and it is easily masked by the blower and radio"
"the compressor is no louder to me than the noise level of an idling ICE vehicle"
"So at this point I have no complaints......"

That's why I feel you are saying all the rest of us are imagining things when we come here to post of a new issue and so many of us are "yes, same here". You chime in that in your opinion there is no problem, you see no issue and you have no complaints or concerns.

It seems you need reading comprehension lessons, and cherry picking things out of my post shows that.

First off, I was explaining MY experiences SO FAR and I CLEARLY stated that temperatures have been cool here so it may not have manifested yet.
"I still have not had 95-100 degree temperature to see what happens"

Secondly, I didn't chime in that there is no problem. Where the F&%^% do you get that idea? I know there is a problem, my post was to illustrate that it may be variable depending on build/delivery date, etc. If you had read OTHER THREADS ("Let's hope it is indeed a software tweak to reduce or elimate the problem.") about this problem you would see that not only do I think there is a problem, but I think it may be fixable via software updates.

We welcome new members here, but do your reading homework here before making daft accusatory comments. It makes you look silly.

So I got my S back this morning and it doesn't have 22 updated yet, still on 18. AC blasting today (hot out) on LO was almost totally silent and no vibration (in cab). As previously mentioned, I had no issues with the loaner AC until I updated to 22. Needless to say, I'm going to hold off updating this one for now.

When you do update, might be cool to try to do a video comparison of the sound in similar temp conditions pre- and post-update.

Car gets loud but it goes away within 5-10 min. Upside is that car gets coilover much faster.

I don’t have an issue with the temporary increase in noise. It doesn’t last that long

I experienced something similar, but only in temps up to 84° so far. I suspect that some people have compressors which are more prone to vibration and the higher speed highlights the problem. If you combine a compressor that vibrates a lot with an installation problem (routing of cables/hoses, refrigerant fill, fasteners not appropriately tightened, etc.) then it probably makes more noise and pedal vibration at the new higher speed than it did before.

If that’s what’s going on then, depending upon the compressor in a Rivian and the way it was installed, it could be that some folks are hearing a not-objectionable level of noise and zero pedal vibration, others get a weed-eater noise and foot-numbing vibration, and everyone else falls somewhere in-between.

I live in Florida and it is stupid hot here now until October. The noise and vibration after the update is horrible - I sure hope they roll back or fix this.

Got my truck back from service and they updated it to 22 while it was there. The noise at startup is more noticeable but still less noisy than my model 3 was.

What about the pedal and floor pan vibrations compared to the model 3? Which one has more leg numbing vibrations?

I live in Florida, and hadn’t noticed this until the most recent update. It is only noisy at full throttle. Anything lower and it is dead quiet. It was also hot before the update and the compressor didn’t ramp up to full speed I guess. Still cooling well for all it is worth. Never had any problems before the update and was quiet.
