Unsung most be right, then. My local DT did mine for free. Then again, barely any EVs in my neck of the woods, so maybe they consider it a privilege ..?
There are DT locations who do not do alignments at all.

Must seem like dumb question. Why do you need an alignment?

- Was the vehicle pulling to one side or the other?
- Uneven tire wear (outside or inside wearing more than the other, sculpting wear)?
- Was some mishap that involved wheels?

In all the years with nearly 20 vehicles I've owned, I never had any alignment done, just because I bough at new set of tires (if old set did not have unusual wea) or that its been X thousands of miles. In some cars, I've had camber change done for handling purposes so that qualifies as an alignment but that's about it.
Yes it was pulling left. They showed me the before and after results. Now i just noticed the wheel is not straight so i have to go back

Title says "maintenance costs pricing is high" then "I'm not complaining about costs?"

EV maintenance costs are a fraction of ICE vehicles. R1S is my 5th EV and in my other EV's, which were all 3 year leases, only costs were tire rotation and maybe cabinet air filters (Chevy wanted $120 for the cabinet air filter and I was able to buy one for $20 and replace it myself in about 5 minutes).

The 4/40k service for my 718 GTS 4.0 was ~$2,400...and that included a PCA discount. Others have paid $3-$4k.

Agree. Think we're getting "spoiled" by the new-normal EV maintenance costs and forgetting the ICE maintenance costs. I just completed the 22k mile service and I thought it was very reasonable.

I don’t think there’s as much money being saved between a Rivian and an ICE pickup/SUV maintenance as thought. It might seem like it because you aren’t paying for an oil change once or twice a year and a differential/transfer case service every few years but you’re buying a $1000+ set of tires twice as often. The savings is even slimmer if you own basic tools and can do simple tasks like oil and fluid changes.

Just had my gen 2 r1s in the sc for some maintenance. Got the tire roation, inspection and air filter ($312) and an alignment ($287). How on earth does an alignment cost less than the inspection, tire rotation, and air filter? Not complaining about the cost overall but, shocked at how its priced lol.
What year? How many miles? I don't see anything but skip-it items.

My last ICE car was substantially more expensive to maintain. I was used to those expenses so this is a nice change. Not apples to apples but IMHO the Rivian is a lot less expensive.

My alignment cost more that $287.00, so I have to say you were very luckly. When I took my 22 R1T Quad with 34,000/miles in for alignment last week to the Portland, OR Service Center my cost was $575.00, which included a $150.00 discount for their time to test drive the truck.

edited: to reflect the SC's discount for test driving the truck

Thanks. Alignment needed.

As for the steering wheel being not dead centered, I'm bit OCD about that. It would bug me.....every time I get behind the wheel.

Im like 99% certain I didnt put that high part in title. Im not sure if a mod did that? But i remember thinking I can't say its high in the title because that is not valid. Either way, my complaint isnt about overall cost, its just that the inspection and air filter with tire rotation costs more than an alignment. I was a technician years ago and cant imagine that.
