Manual Tonneau Broken Already

Yes! My manual cover snapped as well. It was the first time I tried to pull the slats off and crack...both ends of the pull strip cracked off...really! I see I am not the only one this has happened to. I do love the truck though!! Hopefully Rivian will do better in the future with these covers. Does anyone know if they provide replacements?

I think it is a good design but the quality of material those clips are is sub-standard.

So...my manual tonneau cover arrived last week. I installed it right away. It looks great, though I'm not thrilled with having to remove it, piece by piece, to access items in the bed. The first time I pulled the loop to release the cover, something snapped. A small piece of plastic, roughly the size and shape of the button on a click pen, broke. Now I cannot release the tonneau to remove it. Way, way too fragile for an adventure vehicle. I have a service appointment coming soon to fix a hood that doesn't open or close properly, and to replace a floor mat anchor that pulled out. I've added the tonneau to that service request. In short, very frustrating to receive such a poorly designed tonneau after such a long wait.

Same thing here. The latch and associated stem are made of a brittle plastic. Almost like it was 3D printed. Unfortunately the plastic end piece that contains the latch is pinch pressed onto the panel so the whole panel will need to be replaced. I've been happy with my R1T overall, but this cover has been a hot mess from the get go.

Did it break when you pulled on the loop in the middle? Instead of K.I.S.S. (an early general criticism from Monroe Assc.) they got too cute with design. Instead of linear pull, they should have chosen spring loaded pivoting latches. Eliminate need for a bunch of parts, more intuitive and less fragile.

Same thing happened to us? Did Rivian replace part or replace cover? It would seem it would be essy to buy an aftermarket replacment pin?

This is exactly what happened to ours back in December. We don't remove it that often but when I did then, the spring snapped and it was that way for about 4 months. I had to use a pliers to pull the spring out and pull on the cable to remove the panel.

We had a mobile tech come out to fix the 12v battery issue and I had put in my service request that the tonneau cover broke. The tech came out and replaced just that panel. I am very careful now.

Rivian is amazing, but, this design and decision was shortsighted.
