I was in the Denver Service center yesterday and asked about the auto cover fix. They told me late Oct is what they're hearing now, but also mentioned that you could swap it out for a manual one. I'm considering that (one less thing to go wrong) but I've never seen one live. Anyone have one and care to share how it works?

I'm still waiting on mine, but tons of posts about this in a few threads. Quick summary - they break easily (cheap plastic parts) but look good. Good value at pre-March pricing, awful value at $1800.

My expectation is that it'll get redesigned again, but who knows when.

the storage bag is amazing. once the panels are all in, its great. it fits like a glove, looks good, pretty water tight. it does get extremely hot under direct sun so not sure how that will impact the durability long term. the storage bag is amazing. and also concerned about two other points of durability

1. the ends of each panel are made of plastic and it doesn't seem that sturdy.
2. the release mechanism doesnt seem sturdy - i think most people will be taking the cover on/of and i dont think that mechanism is going to last long or people are going to break it by pulling too hard.
3. did i mention the storage bag is amazing.

Mine arrived. Very easy to install or taken off and looks great. Heavier than I expected. But one corner was broken by UPS shipping. Rivian should put corner guard in the bag.
update: After shower, there was water at both edges of the truck bed. No water in the middle though.

Mine arrived 2 days ago... it seems well built and as mentioned above, the storage bag is really well done. At this point, I think they will last for a long time as long as you remember to keep the plastic ends off hard ground.

I really like mine (pre-hike pricing). It looks good, fits well, is quite functional (one underrated feature is that the panels are linked. So if something slides to the front of the bed, it's easy to pull the whole cover a bit, create an opening near the front of the truck, and shove that item towards the back), is decently water-resistant, and I think is higher security than most aftermarket items.

I get the durability concerns, but don't see them being a major issue for most practical uses. Seems like more of a shipping-related risk. I leave mine on most of time. If using the truck bed w/o tonneau, I remove it, place it in the bag, and store carefully in the garage. Tough to imagine damaging it in this way, but time will tell. Happy it's under factory warranty.

I think they should’ve made the ends a little better but a tonneau really doesn’t need to be sturdy IMO. I’ve had fabric tri fold and fabric roll up covers in the past and they surely weren’t sturdy.

As far as the release mechanism goes, you’re supposed to push the tonneau forward before pulling the release.

Also, the storage bag is amazing

I started out with a powered one in my launch edition, now have the manual one in my adventure. Not having the stress of wondering if it will open/close or block the bed is worth it. It rained pretty heavy last night and the bed is completely dry. Will give it a run through a car wash and see what happens.
