Very tempted to ask for a refund. Tonneau covers just might not be in Rivian's wheelhouse:asshat:

I would wait it out if at $800. Every truck buddy that I've shown to loves that you don't lose truck volume, can be different lengths and fits in gear tunnel.

We all would love a powered tonneau that works but the design and agility is pretty damn good.

At least they said something. I asked my guide where mine was a few weeks ago and she said they were pausing due to shipping issues. Guess some guides do know what’s going on.

Crazy that packaging redesign taking so long. This states 5-6 weeks but it’s easily been another 4 weeks since shipments seemed to have slowed or stopped.

This seems like a very low priority. Would be surprised if I receive by end of the year.

Not just a redesign. Probably have to order new boxes and packing materials after the redesign.

Exactly. This is unfortunate news, but it is progress for Rivian’s communications department.

Hopefully, an update regarding the powered tonneau is in the works, as well.

I also received the same email. It's almost amusing they are saying 'redesign'. Such a simple task of making it rigid and put them in plush packaging to survive shipping is so difficult for this company. Oh BTW, they took more than a year in 'designing' this exploded lego piece in the first place.

Some give them excuses saying tonneau may be their low priority. I had owned several trucks before r1t and everyone of them had tonneau cover almost the day I drived it off dealership. To market them as a adventure vehicle, tonneau cover is almost mandatory just as a spare tire.

I can sense some pattern going on here. Their 'designing', 'engineering' and delivery all executed at miserable and sluggish pace and failing. No wonder they are still losing $30k+ on every vehicle they deliver.

Lucky that my truck is still running fine.

And how many years have those other companies been building trucks? A lot more than Rivian. They are a new company and if anyone is expecting the same level of manufacturing or product line as a company that's been around for 100 years then they are going to be sorely disappointed. This is part of the new company adopter issues. Some people can't handle that and that's ok, there are plenty of other companies to buy a car from.

Yeah, I’m not happy but not surprised either. As much as I’m loving my R1T, I’m not happy about this delay. I read weeks ago in this forum that some of these were arriving to customers damaged. Why did it take them so long to discover and communicate the problem?

It was June or July when they started shipping them out. I wouldn't say that's terribly long. If it was Ford or GM it would be years before they would admit something was wrong.

I've asked to cancel and refund couple of day earlier, two emails came back on the same day, one confirming the cancelation and another one confirming that cancelation was a great idea :)
Will give lomax a try instead.

I'm on the fence about canceling. My temporary plywood and pine tonneau is a pain to manage, but it doesn't leak..... and it only cost me about $50 to make. For $800 I'll get one from Rivian that's easier to manage but probably leaks. Or, I can cancel the order and get something else for less than the $800 but sacrifice some space for easier handling and no leaks.

We should also compare Rivian to companies known for good customer service, not just legacy US car manufacturers who have failed to inspire confidence in this area.
