Does anyone else think the mirror tilt on reverse functionality is backwards? I only need that functionality when I'm parallel parking, but I'm doing back-in/nose-in parking 95% of the time, so I am always pressing the button to untilt the mirrors, and it doesn't reliably work 20% of the time. I would much rather have the mirrors not move when I reverse unless I press the button to tilt them when I need it. I really think that should be configurable.

It is configurable. You can set it to not tilt mirrors when backing up, and it can be set different for each driver. I like them to tilt, my wife does not.

I WANT to be able to tilt them. I just want the default behavior to be to NOT tilt, but when I push the button when parallel parking, they do tilt. For most people I would think parallel parking is the exception, not the rule, so it should default to only tilting when you choose for them to tilt.

I agree. Most of the time I’d prefer the mirrors not to tilt. It can be annoying for most reversing situations. Other times, it is useful, as when parking next to curbs.

I agree with the OP. Find myself ducking my head to see out the drivers side mirror

I agree with the OP as well, in fact I posted a suggestion on RivianTracker that we need a button to tilt the mirrors when desired. (If you don't select the option to tilt the mirrors automatically, there is no way to to it manually.)

I turned the feature completely off. As others have said, the existing camera views (especially the overhead) makes it not needed. I can see exactly how far I am from the curb w/ the overhead view.

If you don't want the mirrors to tilt when parallel parking, turn the feature off. Once adjusted properly I love auto tilting. Keeps me from scraping my tires on the curb when backing up.

I guess I’m just old school. I have always depended on mirrors. After almost 2 years with my R1T, I still cringe a bit when trusting the cameras in close quarters. I am getting better and I promise to rededicate myself to overcoming my mirror addiction. Nevertheless, I think having the mirror tilt function being optional, WITH a one button push to activate, versus default, with a button push to cancel, is a better way to do it. Most of the time, I don’t need/want the mirrors tilted when reversing. When there are curbs or other low obstacles involved, it’s a whole different story.

I know you're not asking for people to "dogpile" on with comments about "I don't use this feature". Personally I don't, for the reason that I don't like putting extra "wear & tear" on those little motors. Also if I'm inching myself backward and forward to exactly center myself in a parking spot, I don't need the mirrors wiggling all around, LOL. 😆

Good luck, hope they're able to add the feature you're requesting via software update. 🙂

There's that too. Especially for those who live in climates that see extremes in temps. But you see much more through the cameras than what those mirrors give you. The industry moved to cameras, from mirrors, for good reason.

It's honestly too slow of a transition for me to be useful. I turned it off within a day of the option. But, it's something many asked for.

I agree on overusing these moving parts. This is the reason I disabled the easy exit feature that moves the seat and steering wheel every time I get out of or into the car. IMHO, this is a valid reason to NOT make the mirror tilt feature occur every time one puts the car into reverse. When needed, one quick tap on the steering wheel button should suffice to tilt the mirrors. I think this should be a settings option. For those that want the mirrors to tilt every time, they should be able to set it up that way. No tilt, automatic tilt, or tilt on demand - your choice 😊
