Will Rivian deliveries after September (since deliveries of 2022 models started last September) be 2023 models like all other vehicle manufacturers? If so, since preordered LEs weren't delivered in the launch year nor given priority delivery, can LEs that didn't ship in the launch year or actually be part of the launch production be truly called launch editions? What should this "special" edition be called?

OC/LE, LE2 (squared), Ltd. Ed., Platinum Edition (JK), Patagonia Edition and will the special badging reflect the new name?

Only a Rivian employee can answer that.

Since Rivian is copying so much from the Tesla playbook I would guess that January 1st would start the 2023 model year.

I read that thread, thanks. It didn't really answer my question or address my point(s). Basically, Rivian will have to change the year either in September or January. Otherwise, theoretically, I could have delivered a brand new 2022 LE in 2023 that is already 2 years old (resale and kbb).
Second point, Launch Edition doesn't have the same meaning if you batch others before it.

launch edition, Adventure, Explore, isn’t tied to model year. It is a variant encoded in the VIN.

model year is generally an arbitrary construct. What actually matters when determining vehicle age, especially for regulatory reasons, is the date of construction.

Correct. It's an alpha (which becomes an alpha-numeric) in 2031 so it's the 8th character from the right or 10th character from the left (currently) and links to a table to get the specific year.

Launch Edition is a feature set, not a model year. Launch Edition signifies that you placed an early order, thereby supporting the launch, and did not specify a model year. Rivian indicated LE would get priority delivery, but they never said that all LEs would be delivered prior to non LE vehicles.
