Motor fault detected

Just got my new R1T dual motor a month ago and already had the turtle mode come up after 1000 miles. Also got an error saying to avoid water as there is an electrical issue. The reset didn't work and sleep mode didn't resolve the issue. Already have an appointment to get the truck towed and serviced but sucks that such an expensive truck died within the first few weeks of the new car.

The good news is most of these turtles seem to come out in the first 1000 or so miles. They'll get you fixed up and correct any other issues they find, i.e. Suspension or drive units.

Yeah I'm just hoping it's not a recurring issue. I've read some nightmares with service centers on this forum and I'm hoping I have a decent experience. Already annoyed though as I can't get a rental car until tomorrow and no loaners are available.

I am sorry this happened and totally get your disappointment.

With the number of trucks Rivian has out there now, including the dual motor enduros...I haven't haven't seen a large number of failures. The percentage of failures seems really low to me. Unfortunately this doesn't help those folks who are experiencing failures. I feel confident is saying that those who have had failures will be repaired and highly unlikely to experience premature failures in the future.

The service wait times & experience are improving...slowly...but it is improving. My three services so far (2 visits and 1 mobile) have been great except for the wait time.

Does seem like most of the issues reported here are infant mortality type things, factory escapes, etc. Fewer issues reported on vehicles with a few thousand or more miles on them.

My DM R1T's rear motor unit died and the T went to turtle mode after 250 miles.
They have replaced the rear DU under warranty and so far the second one looks good knock on wood
They gave me a loaner T so all was fine and in the end it might be a happy end story

I am sure they will fix yours as well.

I didn't get offered a loaner. Got a jeep instead from enterprise. Once I got the rental car home I realized the tank was empty and had to immediately get gas. Not a great weekend lol

That sure is a rocky start. Loaner really depends on the SC, I can imagine very busy ones are out of loaners.

But you can be sure your T will be fixed

How long did it take you to get yours fixed? And how many miles have you gone with the new motor?

Took 2 weeks for the motor alone due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
And I ran over 200 miles with the new one. Should be around the same mileage when the first one broke.

I have a R1S with 1,800 miles I just got the same message “Motor Fault Detected” today. I was at home in my own garage and it wouldn’t go into reverse or drive. I did a hard reset with the left button and hazard light and the message went away and I was able to drive then charge normally.

The only thing that was different than normal was I was away for 5 days and hadn’t driven it.

Logged a ticket. A guy the helped me with a mobile ticket last time told me that they should be able to tell me what happened remotely. Still waiting to hear back.

I hope you don’t get the same issue I got. My car doesn’t seem like it will be ready for at least another 2 weeks.
