Has anyone with an R2 made the Bay Area to Tahoe drive yet? Super interested to hear range experiences getting up to the mountains. I can make the East Bay to Truckee drive in my 2024 Dual Large R1S without stopping to charge and would love the R2 to be able to manage that as well.

It is about 200 miles drive , I'm not sure if it can make it, recent tests shows real range is 250 (in conserve mode) on highway, but there is a very long uphill stretch to reach Truckee

Yeah, that's what got me wondering. ABRP shows that the R2 will make it with 20%+ to spare but trying to reconcile that with the real world test and the fact that my R1 with similar EPA range can do it.

The "pucker factor" would be way too high to not grab an In-N-Out burger in auburn along with a few electrons at the charger up the hill. Add 30% and see if you dip into it by the time you get to the Truckee charger. I got $2 that says you do.

Well, you won't be driving 70mph all the time , due to traffic, speed limits in most areas we'll below 70, so maybe

Yup, not trying to arrive with single digit SoC. Just was hoping that if my R1S can get off I-80 in Truckee with 20-30% remaining that the R2 might do the same

Looks like you'll be the guinea pig.
I've seen 0% on my way to that charger. Left a trailer at a pizza joint just to hopefully make it. I did make it, btw.

Getting stuck on a mountain pass in a snowstorm with low battery, with a potential 4-12 hour delay/rescue, would absolutely stop me from considering this even if the range was technically possible.

I guess I should have clarified initially but I'm asking this in the context of a clear drive (no snow). I make the drive regularly in the summer and winter in my R1S starting with 100% charge and always arrive with 20-30% battery remaining. If it were snowing, though, I'd for sure stop in Auburn

I didn't mean to criticize the question, it's definitely worth asking.

The R1 doesn't get anywhere near 2.6mi/kwh on the trip to Tahoe as it's constantly uphill, even before you get to the actual incline. The ride back is easy peasy, if it weren't for the "getting stuck on top of the pass in the winter" issue, I'd even be comfortable attempting it with 40 miles remaining on the battery meter.

An R2 making it up to Tahoe would be super questionable, and depends a lot on how closely it can stay to that 2.8mi/kwh figure up the pass. Does it drop below 1.0 like the R1, or eke out a better efficiency number uphill?

I came to this thread expecting to see a photo of you backed up to the edge of a mountain in the R2 with a golf club in hand smacking golf balls out into the abyss. Ha!

I do the drive from Oakland to Truckee often. In the summer, I can make it with 20-25% remaining. It's very tight in the winter. Based on everything I've seen from the R2, you should be able to make it in the summer no problem, but cold weather may push you over the edge.

I usually just stop once on the way anyways for a short charge and bathroom break so I wouldn't worry about the R2 range here personally. Still recommending the car to family members who do this drive often as well from the east bay.

Rule of thumb is that 1000' of climbing burns about 10 miles of range. So theoretically, it would require 270 miles of flat range to get there (pass at ~7000'). I would expect stopping in Auburn or Colfax for a quick top up.
