Not surprising. Maybe a new color or two?

I am hoping big changes come in 2028. Making big changes in the middle of the R2 launch would be very risky, and unnecessary. Also I think they are on a three year major refresh cycle.

Unsurprising that there are no powertrain upgrades. Question in my mind is whether the Autonomy system will be upgraded to RAP1 or not.

It'd probably have a big enough effect on power usage that they'd have to retest, and they did not.

Would be really interesting if they brought the R2 motors to a new model in 2028- they seem to be more efficient and more efficiently packaged as well- and yes, it would require new EPA testing (and $$$) to do so.

My guess is that the next update on the R1 will be a major one pending R2 success.

It's not about proving the motors, they're fine - it's about doing an EPA test cycle on a different platform with those motors. There will be a different EPA rated range. And, as already stated on the post above this, it would be a new SKU and would be required to go through those testing metrics.

The only changes I could see are the steering wheel and chipsets, maybe LIDAR. No reason to change anything else right now.

No changes will happen to the R1 until all models of the R2 are launched and proving demand. Capital is to important right now and everything Rivian does needs to be hyper focused on R2.

At this point a 2029 model will have major updates and be the next "G3".
