They’ve really shifted expansion in high gear this year. Wonder if it’s due to government incentives, or the infusion of cash from joint venture.

The plans for these sites were likely started well over a year ago. I think it's just been a matter of getting the new 1.5 hardware and software ready. Like making sure it can charge other cars, tap to pay payment system, etc. The hardware development also doesn't happen overnight. Design, sourcing, validation testing, that's well over a year timeline too.

Awesome seeing it in Pismo! Don’t see it updated on the Rivian app planner tab yet!

Yes, it's great seeing new RAN stations popping up. The one is Shoshone is fairly new too. It would be nice to get one in San Diego County.

Only seven have been built across all networks. Rivian have been slow this year with about 18 in the last six months. I recall they said 600 by end of 2023 back in 2021 - how times change!

As of 12/21, there are now 45 nevi funded sites online. A few of those being the new RAN 1.5 sites. Rivian had to design new hardware, source it, update the manufacturing, update all the firmware and software, and do validation testing of the whole system before it could be installed in the ground and turned on. That doesn't happen overnight.

That doesn't even cover the timing of putting proposals for sites together, getting approvals, getting the site electrical upgrades, and getting the contractors to do all the installs. Again, doesn't happen quickly.

And I think Rivian has turned on about 12 new sites in the last two weeks.

Let's hope they get to 600 quickly. Need a lot more chargers in remote locations.

Few if any of these are NEVI funded sites. So, no. IIRC maybe the Michigan one was?

My guess is the rollout will be steady but slow. Rivian has a single priority and that's getting to profitability ASAP. Adding any new charging sites actually goes against that goal because of the timely for return on investment for a charging site. We should be thankful for any new RAN sites.

I wish Utah would play ball. There are no RAN DCFC there and that’s a hotspot for off-roaders and road trippers. The EAs there are pretty lame too.
