I think they said a week later so isn't that the 22nd when other vehicles start getting updates?

Be happy you can use your phone to tether the car. The cell modem in my Audi is too old as 3g is switched off. The car has a Wi-Fi chip for hotspot but not the other way around so the car is dead to the Internet. Luckily traffic comes via satellite.

Thats the logical response. The emotional one goes something like this:

Why do I need to subscribe to my $90,000 vehicle? That should have been baked in.

or

How many damn subscriptions do I need in my life now?

or

They didn't do Carplay because they wanted to milk more money from me.

or

They are specifically delaying this update to get more people to sign up. That's scummy.

All of those are negative.
I am in agreement with @RWerksman here. This is nickle and diming Gen1 owners who really put a lot on the line for this company. They took a leap of faith on a company that wasn't fully formed and have spent a small fortune while enduring a lot of hassle with first generation problems, a service network that is underdeveloped and overwhelmed, and a vehicle that has seen significant depreciation relative to the ICE market.

As a point of principle you ? 'ing take care of your Gen 1 owners who are going to put up with a lot to help stand up the company and deal with a lot of issues that Gen 2 owners and beyond won't have to. Tesla stood by their first generation S/X owners and Rivian, who I would believe should be better tuned to their owners should being doing just as much as Tesla did.

It might seem trivial for a $15 a month subscription, but being put in a second class tier speaks to the emotional response that an owner of that tier would feel. Rivian needs as much good will as it can especially at such a critical time in their life.

Tesla gave Gen 1 owners free supercharging for life. That's a big deal. Rivian could have made Connect+ free for life fo Gen1 owners or made sure that updates like this came out to them at the same time despite not having Connect+.

Adults feeling cheated about the timing of a virtual Halloween costume release? Carry on, Rivian owners.
If you ever taken your kids on a Disney cruise and realized how many people on board don't have any, this whole ordeal will all make sense.

Imagine how gen 1 owners feel being that we subsidized the company only to be left behind like an old iPhone ?
It's funny that these myths persist when Apple sets the standard for support longevity. So dumb.

I still don't have an update either.

I worked for Apple. For a long time. It can't be a myth when Apple sets the standard for a phone released 5 years ago to no longer receive updates.

At least you were correct about the so dumb piece. I don't think/know if Rivian would be THAT aggressive in a deprecation schedule, but, I suppose I wouldn't be entirely shocked either. It seems a bit unlikely that they will fully support gen1 software/hardware configurations well up towards the end of a 150k warranty.

No idea.

"At least" five years for iPhones, and 10 years of support for MacBooks. In actual practice, they are doing them far longer, like the 6S still getting some last year. Working in IT I've had the pleasure of experiencing two year old Google devices being not only off updates, but literally broken because Google put something new in Chrome, and refused to add it. The web devs use the new thing, and boom, dozens of devices are paperweights. Good times.

You were saying?

We have an R1S and R1T (both gen 1), we don’t subscribe to connect+ so we are getting the non-priority status and therefore we don’t have the update in the vehicles.

The only time I want priority update is when there is a limited time feature like Halloween.

So sad, I hope it comes soon
I DONT HAVE IT EITHER AND I SUBSCRIBED TO CONNECT+

I had 8 google wifi mesh in my house. Bought them early. They updated the firmware. It bricked all of them. Google support confirmed the bricking and said they were not reparable and would not do anything to help me. All in the garbage they went. I cancelled all google subscriptions and no longer buy their products.

Though I am pretty sure they don’t miss my business ?

I’m an early gen1 R1T without connect+..got the update fee days ago…its coming, make sure your connected to wifi at home when parked to speed up the process. On a brighter note…does anyone know what the bottom date refers to…guessing the R1 launch date!?

I'm Connect+ and no update. I talked to service three times and received three different answers as to why no update. The last guy told me that my VIN is on update hold until they replace the 12v battery.

I haven’t had any 12v issues. The battery replacement is at their request. It took three days for them to finally schedule a mobile service for early November. After talking with them about my displeasure with the update hold (about which they could have informed me two weeks ago,) they managed to find time at the SC this week for the battery swap.

So I guess I have the potential to get a couple of days of Halloween.
