I'm a bit confused by what's going on here. A video might be helpful. LIke, when you open the door and sit down, does the vehicle act like it's detected your presence? When you pull on the "shifter" to put it into drive, does it respond at all? Doors lock, etc.?

If you try to use YouTube or Chromecast, do those work? E.g., vehicle operates normally in "park", it just won't shift into "drive" or "reverse"?

If it's really broken, I would prefer that,Rivian SC fixes it. If you somehow resolve it, it can happen again.

I had the same thing happen to me on my 26 RIT did everything they said. nothing it said on the screen drive mode locked because of the brakes. 2 days later i did the update that was being rolled out and that fixed it. I was planned to have it towed not knowing that the update might fix. They came to tow and it drove fine no problems ever since. They said since it was in auto update it might have been not fully updated. Said do the updates only after i get a notice and i am asked if i want to do it and i am by wifi for an hour or more. so i never have it on auto update anymore. So see if you can do the update?

I've noticed if you have the door open, or are only partly sitting on the driver's seat, then the vehicle turns on but you can NOT shift into a gear, likely the drivers seat pressure sensor believes the driver is not in the vehicle so it can't be shifted into a gear. I weight 170 lbs so this normally isn't an issue but it happened to me over the weekend and noticed I was sitting mostly on the bolster since I was just moving it a few feet and was going to quickly hop out again. Once I repositioned myself on the seat all was good. Might be worth a try - pushing down on the seat to see if it's the pressure sensor.

Make sure the truck doesn't think the charge port door is open. Open it and close it just to be sure. Try the hard reset multiple times. Make sure the sensors aren't somehow blocked or really dirty. Use carwash mode and see if will go into neutral, then shift it out from there. Try a different drive mode like sport or snow-mode.

We will try those suggestions, thank you. Rivian did not suggest any of those.

Tried, but no luck. Thank you anyway.
Is your Bluetooth on your phone connected? It may not detect it. Try a key card?
Tried all - FOB, phone, and key card. No luck. Thank you anyway.

Make sure you press and hold your name on the center screen to capture and send the diagnostic capture to Rivian. Technically the hard reset should do it but more data means more for them to work with.

I assume you’ve tried locking the vehicle and walking away, shutting down all Rivian apps on all phones and allowing it to sleep. And that you’ve tried every manner of “reset” beyond the soft and hard resets such as the trick of pressing the frunk button 10 times or plugging and unplugging the vehicle. Literally try every single thing you can think of. Open and close all the doors. Lock and unlock. Try the keycard. Try the fob. Make sure the vehicle has a 4G LTE connection. Power cycle the Bluetooth on your phone etc.

Oh and another obvious thing. You cannot put it into gear while the vehicle is plugged in.
Yes, this was the ‘sleep mode’ suggested by Rivian. But it didn’t work.

Hard reset includes a diagnostic capture. But good of all owners to know how to capture without resetting—when errant behavior and fault warnings occur.

You can drive with the charge port door open if it can't close for any reason.

We cannot get our 2025 R1T into drive or any other ‘gear’. Cannot drive it. We have done a ‘soft’ reset, and a ‘hard‘ reset. We also put it in sleep mode, but nothing helps. Screen says it’s ‘ready’, but nothing happens. Anyone had anything like this?
Seems like its only drive mode - the solutions I had suggested were its not at all responsive. - hence removed it.

THIS JUST HAPPENED to me but eventually the hardware reset resolved it. I ran quick errand, then had time to kill before going somewhere else. I got in the truck and did some reading. The R1T (I think) went to sleep. I had the AC off and the window open. I went to put it in drive and it was insisting I needed to press the Brake, which I was indeed pressing.

Did a software reset and, nope, could not shift out of Park. So stupid. The vehicle has 1 job - DRIVE.

Fortunately after a hardware reset I was able to get it into gear. Literally.

At least, presumably, a diagnostic log was sent to Rivian with the hardware reset and they can prevent this in a future release. Never encountered this since taking delivery in 2023.
You have to note the time (exact time and date of time stamp) so that Rivian service can pull it up easily the diagnostics of the specific fault - the time and date are a huge help otherwise they are not always accessed by service

Needn't be exact. You can give them a window (i.e. "between 1PM and 3PM PST, last Monday"). It cuts down the time they would spend looking for the data capture—compared to looking at a 24-hour period or worse.

Not saying you didn't do it—but I've not seen it mentioned—you and your husband did step on the brake when attempting to shift into gear out of park?

In cases of failure, lost of drive would have been accompanied by fault warning indicators. But, none are mentioned.
