Thanks OP for the quick executive summary. I won't waste the time watching the video, but I really do love @OutofSpecKyle. I've learned a lot from him. And, even though I live in Florida, I really want a set of Hakkas!

Oh for sure there will be increased degradation with the new chemistry. Maybe even lower charge cycles. No doubt about that.
what do you base this off? Sure the 90 pack had higher degradation than the 85 for Tesla, but I haven’t heard that about the 100. Similarly for the Leaf, the same 24 pack had much different degradation between the 2011 and 2013 models; they then supposedly regressed on the 30 pack (as compared to the 2013 pack), but from what I e heard anecdotally the 40 is better. The chemistry and electrolyte is very important, but just because it is more energy dense doesn’t mean higher degradation.

The 100 has more physical cells. The 90 did not.

Ah did not realize that.

I think my argument for the Leaf stands though - same physical sized battery, massive density increase from when it was first released.

Typical OOS content. Quantity over quality. Attractive to the uninitiated when appetite for info is high. But as you become more knowledgeable (from other sources), you quickly realize how little substance there is. Just another guy who uses more than his share of oxygen and is rewarded too much for it.

Its worth a watch to see the charging speeds. Its also worth jumping to the end to see that the MAX pack and Large pack ended with same % of battery left going the same distance. The strange thing is that you would expect the max to have a higher % left going the same distance. This is a very important point.

A completely pointless 45 minute video that says next to nothing.
it is amazing how you can put a quarter into his yap-hole and he just keeps talking and talking forever.

they are probably making a conclusion a bit too soon based on one data point imo. seems they plan a full charge and range test so that might change their views. they do very little editing of their videos which is why its so long and drawn out, but some people like that.

in their test, the MP charge curve wasnt as "good" as the LP and efficiency was about the same. not sure we learned much.

The main advantage of the long form content is getting to see how they actually do the test, and not just trust someone else. For example, most of the websites out there that do their EV range tests don't show the conditions of the test when they do it. For example, in this video they showed multiple times what the temperature was like for the battery throughout the test between both vehicles. They showed the charge rate per time (for a single test). They showed that they are actually nearly exactly the same efficiency. There was speculation on this forum that somehow the Max Pack was more efficient.

I agree it's long and could be shorter, but it's hard to say what to cut because of the information that someone is looking for my be cut. Although, I do watch it at 2x on YouTube and still sometimes do something else at the same time.

It's $10,000 more for the max pack but remember some of that comes back when selling the vehicle.

I used to watch Kyle but stopped a couple years ago, I got tired of unscripted nonsense. And why do these YouTube "influencers", aka the new marketing shills, at some point always want to get their girlfriend or wife involved?

WATCHED THE VIDEO - SImply says the cars efficiency is the Same 1.95- mile / kWh per mile at 80 mpg - since the max pack has about 14 kWh (135-149 is my understanding) more capacity that should translate into an extra 28 miles - at slower speeds - im more of a 70 mph driver, you would expect a little more - the extra might Not matter once Tesla Super Chargers are available to Rivian drivers but could be handy in the backcountry - forest service roads, winter driving etc …

The point was to compare the “low battery SoC charge rate”. Many people (myself included) assumed that the Max Pack would be able to sustain higher charge rate longer than the Large pack.

Obviously this is just one test, but it is disappointing to see that it drops maximum charge rate earlier than the Large pack. It isn’t a huge difference in the amount of time they charged for, so we’ll have to wait for more/longer charge curves to know for sure. But it does reinforce that I won’t be “upgrading” any time soon.

Well there's an honest response ?. They do edit for sure.... That video had some pretty heavy warp stabilization effects going on.

Those guys must have been chugging the red bull ?

Yes, the max pack will go a few more miles in the initial charge but after that there is very minor benefit. For $10k extra, I agree with Kyle that max pack is not worthwhile but I can understand others may think other way.
It's not few extra miles maybe in the quad motor it doesn't make much difference probably 10% but with the dual motor it adds 60 miles.
