I know this is super petty, but I just wanted to seek validation and see if anyone is as annoyed by the turn signals as I am! :CWL:

1. They do not automatically cancel when they should. I drive the same routes over and over and have done so in several/many vehicles. The R1T is the only one (other than 1962 Morgan with a single toggle switch in the middle of the dash) which does not consistently cancel the turn signal after completing a turn. I have to manually toggle them back off at least once per drive. Made all the more irritating because the monostable design means sometimes that results in a signal in the opposite direction.

2. The force required to toggle them past "lane change mode" is higher than in other vehicles. Not a problem in isolation, but whenever I get back into one of our other cars and turn on the turn signal I feel like I might accidentally break it. Sort of like when you go to get the milk out the fridge and it weighs way less than you expect and you smash it into the roof of the fridge.

3. The sound is so dumb. Volvo did something similar with a "sound of two pieces of wood being knocked together" but theirs is much less twee and sounds more like a traditional turn signal relay.

3a. The tempo of the ticking is *just* a little too slow

You are not alone in finding the turn signals annoying. But it isn't just a Rivian thing. It seems like less than 50% of drivers (of any vehicle make) use their turn signals at all, presumably because they also find them annoying.

I just be satisfied the turn signals work at all at this point. With any luck a software glitch will mysteriously disable them completely. /s

Seriously though I agree, you don’t want to be the kook riding around with his blinker on all day.

Yeah they don't cancel as well as other vehicles I've had do and the sound is somewhat annoying. It's not a major complaint that detracts from the truck in any significant way but I do agree.

“When it came time to reconsider the turn signal audio, the teams opted for a single sound synchronized with the light instead of two individual clicks for the on and off states. The idea was to create something concise and pleasing to the ear, says Garcia, especially given how often drivers and passengers would hear the sound. A succinct, tree stump-like thump ultimately became a favorite. Not only was there harmony between the warm, organic sound and the wood trim inside the R1T and R1S, the new turn signal audio also fulfilled its main purpose in a pleasing way.”

Tree-like thump you say? ?‍♂

Everyone that's been in my R1S comments that the turn signal sounds like dripping water.

Never had any issues with the signal not cancelling, except for a really wide sweeping turn that didn't require enough steering angle to trip the signal off.

Yea…the only time mine hasn’t canceled is when the turn doesn’t require enough steering angle. It also isn’t unique to my R1T as frequently the person in front of me has the same “issue” (which, to be clear, isn’t an issue).

Also, I find the force nice. People already complain that they can’t figure out how to use them reliably for lane changes, another complaint I don’t understand, so if it was even easier to trip them into full signal mode I’d imagine people would be even more upset.

I also find the auto cancel inconsistent and annoying but I haven’t figured out why it’s inconsistent. I‘m indifferent to the sound but I wish it was a bit louder.

definitely annoying. I accidently over correct at least once a day and signal in the opposite direction.
You didn't mention this, but I also hate the fact that you cant' see if the turn signal is on in the side mirrors. I like having that visual assurance when changing lanes of looking in your side mirror and physically seeing a turn signal light on. This is especially annoying because the sound is so wimpy, the stalk is delicate, and there is no blind spot turn signal camera....you really don't know for sure if it is on.
The turn signal light on the rear is also very wimpy looking. It's tiny.

No problems with turn signal cancelling after a normal turn. As others have indicated, the only time it doesn’t is when the steering angle of the turn is not sharp enough (very rare for me). If your signals aren’t consistently turning off, you should log a service issue.

My kids hate that it sounds like my stepdads mechanical heart valve lol. There are definitely tines when changing lanes on highway it doesn't disengage like all vehicles I've had before, amd I become that guy with the Never-ending left turn signal until I notice it.

I find they work great and cancle about same as all my other vehicles over the years. It would be nice to have a volume control on them.
