Load rating is only 113 and tire diameter is 31.9". Should be closer to 33" to match OEM size and load rating closer to 116. The price is another issue. Tire Rack has them for $523. Ouch!!

The Trifecta of Nope.

Very limited dedicated winter tire options in 21", I'm afraid.

Well of course I had the wrong tire in my original post.

Please comment on this tire. See photo.

In addition there appears to be a new one on pirelli website that I didn’t notice. https://www.pirelli.com/tires/en-ca/car/catalog/product/scorpion-ice-zero-2

If you’re talking about the 285 tire size. You need to have a minimum rim width of 9”. I believe that tire size was also a 113 load rating which won’t work. The tires in the 315 size, requires a minimum rim width of 10” in order for them to fit. You can’t use the OEM wheels for either of these tires since the wheel width is only 8.5”

For someone with 21s...like myself...who is looking for a winter tire setup...my recommendation would be the R1600 steel wheels from EV sportline.

They are 20" but I believe you can get a 20" tire that will match the diameter of the 21" wheel so that your Speedo and trip meters maintain accuracy.

You can get the wheels alone or a package that includes the wheels and the tires.

Here in Maryland our winters are fairly mild but in more harsh winters I would definitely have a 2nd set of wheels with proper winters mounted.

I get it, I have 21's on mine as well. However, I decided it wasn't cost effective to buy such expensive snow tires for the 21". When I was able to purchase an entire wheel & tire set with TPMS sensors and mounting and balancing for just $2,400. It'll save me time and money in the long run. In my area, it costs around $125 now to mount and balance at a DT and I would need to do that twice a year if I went with 21" snow tires. That's $250 year in mounting and balancing. Plus, I would have to drop my vehicle off for the whole day since they get backed up for snow tire changes come that time of year. That's an inconvenience in itself, because I only have the one car to drive. Don't think my other half will give up her car for me to use. She's definitely not walking to work. LOL Again, you would have to do this twice a year.
Don't get me wrong, I love the 21's and wished they had more offerings. In my opinion, they're the best looking wheels (minus the aero covers) in the Rivian lineup, with the exception of the 22" black wheels.

I am wondering if people can comment on this winter tire and its ability to be used on a gen 1 R1S for winter?
Buy 20” after market wheels. 1EV has a nice selection. I have 20” and put 275/60/20 which are .1” smaller than the 21” OEM. I am trying out the Toyo mud and snow EV tire this winter. Simple Tire has them for $404 with free shipping. I use the 21” for long distance drives.
