Wassym did confirm very recently that they are prioritizing phone mirroring features, including at some point the release of an API so developers can create Rivian versions. I have a feeling that's in the distant future, but still I hope something that will at least incrementally continue to improve the UI.

Amen and amen. Every time I hop in a rental vehicle and am forced to use the half-a$$ed CarPlay interface (most recently the Audi version for a week) I am reminded of just how awful it is. I love all things Apple but CP blows and I am sooooo glad Rivian is going its own way.
Who’s sitting next to you, “forcing” you to use it? The Car Fox? Flo? A caveman?

If you don’t like it, just fumble about on your phone instead.

Childish post. I explained what I meant by this above.

Still don’t know who’s forcing you. The next person to rent that car might be damn happy it has CarPlay. If you don’t like it, don’t use it, simple enough.

“Forced” implies that you have no choice, but you do. Why not allow others their choice?

What’s halfassed about it? I can control any music source on my phone, make phone calls, send text messages and get accurate satellite imaged navigation. I’ve had four rentals in the last two months from three different brands and CarPlay has done all of that flawlessly. Rivian’s UI isn’t terrible but it’s definitely not as streamlined, user friendly and universal as CarPlay.

I was in a Chevy Tahoe rental a few weeks ago that did not have native navigation built in, so unless I brought my own phone mount the only way I could safely get directions was to connect to CarPlay.

So I guess Mary Barra forced me? ??‍♂

Wait, wait. You used CarPlay in a vehicle and got benefits from it? And it was your choice to use it? And it worked ? Hmmmmm. How interesting.

Can we apply this same logic to all the people whining about the native Rivian system? No one is forcing all of them to drive a Rivian instead of cars with CarPlay right?

Again, in this situation I didn’t have a choice. It was CarPlay, fumbling with my phone that I couldn’t see, or nothing. And I said earlier in this thread it was not good.

The GM UI is bad and it took multiple attempts to even connect my phone. And after that every time I got back in the vehicle it kept giving me messages that I needed to subscribe to services. And to top it off, Google maps, which is usually the most reliable, sent us to the wrong place even though the address was correct. So the term “benefit” might be a bit strong. I guess in comparison to me printing out paper maps or killing someone because I was looking down at my phone…. Maybe???‍♂

I've had more errors with the revered Google maps than with the Rivian nav system in the past few months. My wife's BMW has native Google maps.

Good course corrections. I saw at least four cones dodged during your run there. Good job!

Says the person who read my post with a clearly negative opinion of CarPlay and claimed I stated the opposite.
