Hi, just received our R1S, I noticed the charging port sinks in about 5 mm or so each time we plug in the charging cable and even with a finger I am able to easily push in the charging port with minor pressure. And then i have to grab the cover of the fast charger ports to pull it back out to the original place. Is this normal?!

Thank you guys. It’s such a bummer. Bad QC. Here is my chat with the service guys. Not sure what to think but very disappointing.

I have some thoughts on your chat. I don't really see the point in telling them several times that you're unhappy about this. Everyone is unhappy when their car breaks so that's more or less the default. It seems like your chat was outside of CS hours. I'm not sure how much more they could do for you at the point you were talking to them, and they did talk about how they were going to handle it moving forward so you had some next steps.

In my experience it's more effective to start off by focusing on the positive or focus on tackling the problem collaboratively. Instead of the direct "you need to fix this piece of shit and I'm unhappy about it" start off with an approach that's more "here is the problem and I hope you can help me fix it". Talk to them as if they were a buddy of yours and they came over to look at your truck and help you figure it out. You know they are responsible to fix your truck. THEY know they are responsible to fix your truck. The goal is to get them to WANT to fix your truck as opposed to HAVE to fix your truck.

The way I see it you can always get demanding or nasty later if things aren't working out, so you're better off starting polite or even overly polite. Most people don't like doing that because without realizing it their ego gets in the way. The fact that they believe themselves to be in the right, and in this case you are in the right that your truck shouldn't be broken, and that belief doesn't allow them to approach the situation the way I'm suggesting. Where I differ is my goal is simply to get the problem solved in the best way possible. The person on CS chat didn't break your truck, and being demanding with them might make you feel better but it makes them feel worse.

When you make them feel worse they are going to do the minimum their job requires to get your situation resolved. When you are nice and polite about it that person is much more likely to empathize with you. If you are able to get them to do that they will most likely go beyond the minimum to see that your situation is resolved. The best part is 90% of the people deal with a negative situation the way you just did, so it's easy to stand out.

Anyways, it sucks that your truck has this issue but I'm sure they will get it sorted out. Personally on this one I probably would have waited until something else was broken too just to make my time more worth it. I've had a trim piece sticking up on my rear window for probably 6 months at this point and I'm finally putting in a ticket because I need my tire size changed as well.

I know it’s frustrating and it should not have been delivered to you like that. But they will get it taken care of. All things considered, if that is the only issue you are doing pretty well!

It’ll be interesting to see how your service experience goes. You may need to exercise a high degree of patience with the service center. Mine went in and ended up taking seven weeks to repair. The first four weeks it sat on the lot with nobody looking at it . After they looked at it , it took another couple of weeks to order/recieve parts.

This is why I, personally, would never buy a car brand that does not have a service center within 30 minutes. Too much inconvenience, especially if they do a poor job.

It’s disappointing for sure but, with due respect, you are being a giant pain in the ass and just incessantly complaining and throwing up roadblocks (to CS trying to help you) which is not going to get you faster or better service. In your chat they are reasonably trying to help you and you can’t get out of your own way.
Manage your expectations and embrace that you are an early adopter in a new company. This is something you should have educated yourself on and prepared yourself for before purchasing your ~90k vehicle. Your ignorance and lack of flexibility is going to keep you frustrated longer

That is indeed part of everyone’s individual “math” with regard to risk management. I’m with you…likely wouldn’t have purchased yet if there wasn’t a service center within a reasonable distance.

Noo!! Need to request a mobile technician to properly re-fasten the charging connector! Hopefully he/she can do this without you having to visit a nearby service center. For me, my nearest service center is over 440 miles away. Good luck and congrats with your very own Rivian
