Hmm, the temporary shop I have access to doesn't mention the leasing, and if I go to the regular R1 shop it says I'm creating a new order instead of replacing the existing one.

I was in the same boat - called up Rivian and they said to order a lease car, I need to order from public shop with a separate $1000 lock. The Rivian lady also cancelled my older $1000 deposit and refunded the money while I was on phone. I am not sure how it will work out or if it will if you have pre hike price (i didn't). Placed my new lease order via public shop and got 24 model quad booked.

They simply don’t show identical configs separately. When I had access to the shop, there were times I saw every possible 21” config - but zero duplicates. (Plus a couple 22” and 20”. Just not the one I wanted.) The odds they’d have one of every possible 21” config - and only one of each?
Don't think they have only one possible 21" config. I ordered one yesterday from lease shop and after ordering, I could still see the same exact configuration still available with 1-2 weeks....not a site refresh issue either because it has been available for over 12 hrs since i ordered.

Did you have a binding contract and they still refunded the full 1000?

No, I just had deposit with shop access. I was going to lock it in yesterday hoping that once I lock, I will see lease option but then decided to call anyways first and they asked me not to lock from internal shop as they won't be able to offer lease there and instead order again from public shop.

Here is some food for thought.

The 4 new R1S vehicles that have sold on CarsandBids so far this month have gone at a 9-10% discount to MSRP inclusive of the 4.5% buyers fee.

In December 2023 the average discount to MSRP was -6%.

It's too much of a sample size to really mean much, but makes me a bit worried...

yep the latest was sold at 83,300 which would be 87k with buyers fee, same config with destination fee would be 98k or so if I’m not mistaken, 110 miles on the odometer

Upcoming NACS-port-enabled vehicles for Model Year 2025 - who wants to manage adapters for years when you can just wait a few more months and never have the issue?
You'll just carry a NACS to CCS adapter then too...

Probably not as the existing CCS network, as bad as it is, will be adding NACS handles as they go through upgrades/maintenance.

CCS will become as obsolete as ChaDemo before we know it. Probably even faster.

There wont be much inventory left at that price. There's a lot more people that want the DM/Large 21" config, which has everything they need for the suburban on-roading, and it will be cheaper than 80k after federal rebate (for agreement holders).

R1S demand has shifted towards the lower end of their price range, which still seems to have inventory issues since there's barely any DM/Large in the shop for the last 2 months that I've had access. Some configs I have not even seen in there.

Edit: There won't be a DM with that amount of discount since those aren't in the price protected group.

I think this underestimates how difficult and expensive the transition from CCS to NACS will be. Upgrading the charger hardware is not going to be as easy as "swap in the NACS connector on the cable". Some hardware may just involve a cable swap, others may never support NACS and require a full rip and replace of the station.

Also there are going to be a lot of CCS vehicles on the road for the next 10-20 years so the incentive to swap out stations won't be immediate for any charging companies. NEVI funding will still require CCS cables and those stations are only starting to go into the ground right now.

There's many thousands of Tesla chargers that only have NACS. So having a native NACS port will require less adapters in the months ahead, and every year after NACS will grow while CCS declines.

I just got delivered an R1S with CCS yesterday, would have strongly preferred it have NACS. Agree with others that the CCS future will eventually follow chademo and betamax.

But until that tipping point in 2-4 years, I'd rather have CCS, especially if Tesla delays either the opening of their network or the production of their adapter.

I've always been of the belief that - The pre-price hike price of the R1S is the sweet spot to create enough demand that these things sell and you don't have to worry about them sitting around on the lot. post-price hike is just enough of a difference to make people second guess....especially with these rates.

Zero chance I would buy at today's prices. Especially given the rough QC that constantly being reported.
