My Gen 2 R1S with premium audio feels like it’s missing a sub. My Gen 1 R1T sounds so much better

What amp are you going with? I'm looking at adding a second battery to power my JL HD1200.1 because the existing 20Ah battery doesn't have nearly enough spare capacity. I immediately triggered the 12V service warning the first time I turned it up! ?

Thanks for heads up. I’m doing a relatively small upgrade. Mainly to correct the lows.
I’m planning on adding:
JL Audio JD250/1 amps
JL Audio 8W3v3-4 sub
You think I’ll still need a second battery?

Once installed, I'd recommend hooking a multimeter directly to the 12V battery and play a very bass-heavy song at high volume. If you see any considerable voltage drops, it might be worth investigating a second battery.

My personal option, I think you'll be totally fine with a 250W amp, though.

I googled that part number. Appears to be the same battery used in the G1. How in the world do they justify charging $600 for a $50 battery? Somebody please post the dimensions. I see no reason why we can't throw a LifePO4 in there when the warranty is up.

Rivian says the R1 needs 30amps to boot, so probably need a larger lifepo. Good news is the 30Ah lifepo with 30amp BMS are the same size as the Rivian lead battery.

I think the main issue simply swapping with lifepo though would be the rivian trying to charge the lifepo to voltages that are optimal for lead batteries.

The LifeP04 battery would just get charged to about 80% which would just increase its life expectancy. Maybe at some point Rivian will offer a LifeP04 replacement and a software update to change the charging profile. But they are probably only paying about $20 per battery to the vendor so it's probably not a huge financial hit for all the replacements.

Unless something is wrong with our new G2 R1S, Rivian changed the 12v charing profile in the latest update. Our 12v battery is getting a constant voltage charge of about 14.4 - 14.6 volts when sleeping. Makes me wonder if Rivian has plans to switch to a LifeP04 12v battery for the G2.

It's pretty easy to get to the terminals. Move seat back and pop off plastic cover. You have to remove the seat(remove bolts and tilt seat, not really remove it) to replace battery though. Can't say whats going to happen when you remove and re connect power though.

How many bolts are there to remove? I want to be ready if something happens. Rivian switched out my battery proactively 5 months ago.

If I recall correctly,.the tech removed the 4(I think) bolts to tilt the seat forward and remove the battery.

It’s 4 bolts, you can also remove the plastic cosmetic peaces held with tiny torx bolts. Tilt seat which ever way works for you. I did back.

Crazy. The battery problems continue with Gen2? You would think they would have started putting LifeP04 batteries in. I think that would eliminate the problem.
