I think they gave this a lot of thought and it does appear to be range optimized which is nice. But I'm unsure of this attachment hardware. It's probably strong enough using a cut down u-bolt but I would like to see a more robust approach.

Hi CBRacerX,
Thanks for your comments. This mounting system is incredibly robust. There are four of these J-hook assemblies at each bed rail tie down point. So far they have lasted hundreds of miles of washboard dirt roads and countless 0-60 launches with zero issues. This mounting approach enables our insanely quick installation and removal process. Install/remove in well under 60 seconds!

Ventilation.

That topper doesn’t have windows, and you don’t have a rear sliding window for your dogs on the R1T
Hi Yellow Buddy,
Just going through the comments and saw yours. The Wakeshield does have a rear window that folds in and up out of the way. The entire shell also can hinge upwards for larger items (and dogs). Also, the topper is not air tight. There is a drip edge for rain around the bed rail, this also allows air fresh air to get it. Hope this helps. Have a good day!

Is there a "lock" on the hinge? Or how does it stay open when needed? Or does it just have to rest on any larger object?

Hi HyperionMark, there are two gas struts that hold the shell open so no need for an "open" lock. There is a mechanical hard stop prevent further lifting/opening. When the shell is closed the struts are in a position as to not be forcing it open, by design. Hope this answers your question, have a good one.

Super weird use case I just thought of...
Can you keep it in the "open" position as an aero screen for an RV or trailer?

How tall is the bed space with this closed and installed? I'd like to see if I could get my dog's crate height-wise. If that's the case I might not even need an R1S

No disrespect intended but each to their own, personally I do not like the way it looks. I appreciate design and innovation, this might be the perfect topper for some but not for me.

Throwing "no disrespect" in front of something you say disrespectful doesn't make it all virtuous. Thanks for adding a ton of value to this forum through such great posts.

I like the way it looks. Certainly it is not conventional. But I have never owned a pickup truck, and the R1T isn't exactly a conventional truck. So, I don't give a crap about what a conventional topper looks like. Covering the bed with a topper that actually increases efficiency is amazing, IMO.

You should just ignore this thread and let the rest of us who appreciate innovation follow it.

I was not being disrespectful in my opinion and stating my opinion, I am sorry if I hurt your feelings. I edited my reply to be a bit kinder and give praise where I see fit. I did see a couple of other reactions like "Kill it with Fire", "I don't want to meet people who want that", and thought I was being much nicer but apparently you thought I was the most disrespectful since you took the time to call me out. I hope you feel better now, have a nice day sir!

I do appreciate innovation and they are putting in the time & work which will help the community grow. I have the utmost respect for hard working people and appreciate their efforts regardless if it suits me or not. Hopefully they thrive and develop some more products which will go more mainstream and fill the void for people looking for an efficient more conventional topper approach. There are a few options out and from what I have seen theirs is the only one which can help increase efficiency, so kudos to them for that. Looks is one of those things which is strictly in the eye of the beholder and I am guessing if there is a color match option it will make it more appealing to many.
