As a very early Rivian adopter, I have noticed a shift in the dynamics of Rivian. At the beginning, it was all about the trucks. Of course there was a period when the R1T was the only vehicle in the wild. Most of the the threads and post on these Forums related to the use of Rivians in off-road situations. The Rivian was truly perceived as an adventure vehicle. Over the last several years, the Rivian has morphed into a kid Uber and socker mom vehicle. With the introduction of the R1S, the R1T has faded into the background, rarely to be mentioned.

I fully realize that Rivian's direction must be dictated by sales numbers. The R2 will be an SUV only which speaks volumes.

I am curious to know what the R1T vs. R1S production figures are. Do anyone know what the percentage of tucks produced is?

I see a lot more SUVs than trucks out on the road.

I like the idea of off roading, and I've done a small amount of it myself, but the repair costs and timelines are not worth the risk.

Sort of related - I also don't like how crossovers have replaced cars, but there are a lot of people out there that disagree with me and buy them in droves, so here we are.

I thought I saw something like 70/30 SUV to Trucks. Seems about right to me based on all the SUVs I see around.

I was actually just talking about this with some of my friends. I feel like a huge minority being a man with no kids driving an R1S. Here in Utah if I see another R1S, it's almost certainly being driven by a mom with kids.

R1T on the other hand is much more commonly driven by men of my demographic.

I struggled a LOT with this when I had my Q7. Seems like all the other owners were older women.

I'm in an R1S loaner while my R1T is being serviced. I miss the gear tunnel. Enjoy the shorter wheelbase. Not sure which way I would go if I had to choose again.

The R1S has a noticeably higher adoption rate compared to the R1T.

Consider what vehicles dominate the roads, SUVs or pickup trucks? The answer is obvious. Even within these forums early on, many owners have made the switch from the R1T to the R1S.

Here’s an unpopular opinion: A lot of people wanted to join the Rivian movement, but the only option at the time was a pickup truck. Forums were filled with questions like, "Why can't I do XYZ?" Well, that’s because you have a pickup truck and you really wanted an SUV.

Both the R1T and R1S are capable off-roaders, but given the R1S’s shorter wheelbase, it might actually be the better platform.

For me, personally I am so glad I went with an R1S. Even though I don't have kids I do a lot of people hauling. The shorter wheel base make for much, much easier maneuverability. When in an R1T loaner I was shocked how different the turning radius was.

I took my S off road for the first time this weekend and it was incredible. Really handled it with ease

Not sure you could have an R2T. That would be a small truck…

Most of these off road cars end up as pavement princesses as they become more main stream. Look at Land Rover. Jeeps are teen trucks. Just the way it is.

Drive what you like. 😀

But I'd like to drive an R2T. I will probably go back to a smaller truck after my R1T lease is up. It's a great vehicle but the size is more of a liability in an urban/suburban environment, and I never need its full capabilities. It's pretty telling that Rivian isn't even planning to make an R2T and will only focus on the R2S and R3.

I think an R2T would sell like crazy! But R3/X is next in line, hopefully some day...also, who cares if you're not in the main demographic of what everyone else is for a certain vehicle, drive what you want!

I just don’t think there would be a market for something that small. It would have to be a 2 seater, I would think.

I'm in an R1S while my R1T is in the shop, and I don't really care for the R1S. The ride is sloppy, the sound system isn't as good (I have the Meridian in my truck), and I can't haul anything big and dirty. Can't wait to get my truck back!

Yeah, that's the problem. It's not a matter of always driving what you like if it doesn't exist. I also want a manual transmission Volvo V60 Polestar.

Well, this is very emasculating! My first SUV where I was hoping to project a rough outdoorsy, granola eating macho yet sensitive man; and I end up in the "soccer mom" class. I'm not sure what Ben Affleck and I will do now. j/k.

I actually did get the R1S with the idea of getting back to camping and some light off-roading. Most of these types of cars (R1S, LRRR, GW) will never see dirt. It's just the way it is.
