I guess the best comparison is a Bronco Sport. It is for sure longer than a Q5.
It is much longer than a Bronco Sport. Closer to a full-sized Bronco, bigger than a RAV 4 (exterior dimensions obv.).

I have seen the R2 three times and the R3 twice (I know, spoiled!). I think the R2 is a great size for most Americans. It feels about the same size as the Bronco Sport, even though it's obviously longer (see above). The R3 feels about the same size as an ID4 or a Model Y (even though I know the Model Y is closer in size to the R2 if you just compare dimensions).

Both the R2 and R3 are very cool in person. The R2 feels great as an everyday EV crossover/small Range Rover and the R3 just feels fun, plain and simple.

Sadly, no one is allowed to touch or sit in any of the show vehicles and when I saw the R2 last, the frunk was open and they wouldn't put it back down, which made it a little hard to visualize how it would look with the frunk closed and on the street.

I understand why they aren't letting people sit in or interact with the show models but until they have models available to sit in it's pretty pointless to go see one.

Hopefully at some point this year they'll make enough production intent models to have one or two at every Rivian Space and then I'll make the trek up to Austin.

R2 is roped off can't touch air or breath on it...there is a Rivian test drive section, there is only 2 vehicles, R1S you can sit in and the R2...somewhat underwhelming ....Rivian is tucked in the front corner to the right when you walk in by Ford.

So excited for this to get on the market. 18-24 months feels like forever away. I hope the production ramp is really smooth and that maybe Rivian is getting some guidance on that end.

I am planning to visit on Saturday and one of things we were rally looking for was the R3.

But at least the space looks bigger for Rivian this year.
Last year was a joke.
Ever price out car transport costs? It ain’t cheap. R2 is closer to production and can be reserved. When resources are not unlimited, not a stretch to see why it would have higher priority.

This was the first time Rivian was ever at the Detroit auto show as far as I can remember and unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. Rivian didn't really even have a booth or designated show floor. I don't think I saw any large RIVIAN sign. They just had that small "Meet the R2" piece of paper sign next to it in the very corner of the whole building next to the emergency exits like it was an afterthought. I mostly came to see the R3X as Rivian had advertised it would be there. And it wasn't. Frankly, the presentation Rivian had was embarrassing.

Auto show participation is not cheap for manufacturers. Where's this advertising? R3 was never mentioned in the email they sent.

Boohoo on the 3 , but so relieved I didn’t book a flight just to see our next car- due on the 50 th anniversary of our ‘77 Rabbit - one of the likely inspirations !

I fully support Rivian saving money by taking the cheapest route at a car show. The general public doesn't even know car shows exist.

When and if it comes to NY, I’ll drive my R1T down to go sit in the other EVs. Then I’ll go look at an R2. Marketing genius.
