R2 Online Builder Configurator, anyone know when?

If R2 is coming early 2026, it feels like they should have a builder on their site already. Anyone have any idea when that will happen? Maybe I'm just thinking about the R1's builder was live for what felt like years before they shipped?

No word has been said. I'd imagine we probably won't see one until closer to launch (maybe a month out). If I were to guess, maybe late Q4 2025 or early (Jan/Feb) Q1 2026?

I'd say a few months out from production, because Rivian will want to know how much demand there will be for specific configs and options, I imagine.

My guess is it at least won't be until the end of this month when the tax credit ends. They don't want to lose any R1 sales.

One of Rivian’s biggest mistakes was releasing the R1 builder too early. Customers had specific builds in mind, with prices attached. It led to that giant pricing fiasco that both pissed off customers, and cost the company a lot of money.

Rivian probably has a target ASP in mind, but probably won’t release specific pricing until very close to launch.

Some of the auto companies have online. configurator with all the options without any pricing data included. It's essentially realm of possibilities with a given vehicle.

My guess is that Rivian will preconfigure the launch edition and it's a matter of picking one out from the shop. Perhaps down the road, after the launch edition is starting to deplete, they will make the configurator available with limited choices.

It is likely that they will bundle options into a "package" and it's a matter of selecting few packages. In other words, it will be very difficult to select and find the "entry level" $45Kish vehicle.

I hope Rivian does the R2 configuration page like Tesla did on the Model 3 back in 2017. They sent invites to specific reservation holders to unlock the order page. At that point, you submitted an order, making your reservation fee non-refundable. They would then start building your vehicle within a couple weeks (due to batching) and then ship to your local delivery center. It was only 7 weeks from when I submitted my Model 3 order in early April 2018 until I received the vehicle in late May 2018. Not all configuration options were available when I submitted my order. New options and pricing were added over time. Everyone knew the pricing that the early orders received due to screenshots being posted on Electrek, but it wasn’t official for most reservation holders, since they didn’t have access to the order page.
