Not going to say I said they needed to do this, and accelerate the launch timing, but they are planning on both.

Kudos to RJ and team, that's how to get it done.

They need to work that timeline, but ~24 months from vehicle announcement to production is aggressive. Hopefully they can stick to it, or even pull it in a quarter, but had to be done in Normal.

When in 2026 was it originally expected to start production?

I was about to post this - this seems like really big news that may have flown under the radar. If they wind up pulling in to 2025, the game changes imo. Great job by the Rivian team!

A few members here called it.. bravo to them!

Bravo to Rivian for realizing what has to be done in order to survive!

If indeed the GA plant is "on hold" blame that on the NIMBY lawsuits that delayed site progress for over a year.

Glad they're looking to start producing R2 in Normal instead of GA, but curious why still mid-2026, even after the "pull-in"? Hopefully this will at least help them conserve some cash though. Any thoughts?

I assume can't sell enough R1's at their price point. Might as well shift production to another model.

Rivian probably still is still bottlenecked by machinery + suppliers and/or

set proper expectations and over deliver

Which at this point is a blessing in disguise! If they were further along on the GA plant, it would have been a much more difficult decision for Rivian.

It's one element that baffled me a bit too. 2 years is too long but I suspect and I hope what RJ is doing is under promising with the intent of over delivering.

A Reveal is not exactly the same as an announcement. Assuming that those vehicles on the stage were fully functional, I don't think two years is aggressive. What I hope is that instead it is reliable.
