What the heck??? They can't align a charge port door? How does that pass QC?
My 2025 R1S which I bought lightly used (3 mo. after delivery and 3,800 miles) had a misaligned charge port door. I had the exact same thought, how did this thing make it through final test or final QC? It was such an obvious outlier 🤦‍♂️. My second thought was why did the original owner accept it? None the less, I had it addressed at the local SC. Is it perfect, no. But they said they would not be able to get it perfectly aligned without removing most of the front end body panels. I called it good enough and moved on. It’s been 18 months and no issues since.

Of course you sometimes have to draw a line on what you're willing to live with vs. having it properly fixed at the risk of introducing new issues cause by invasive repair efforts. As far as that non-motorized charge port door, it could possibly be fixed by a simple twist since people have already said it's a flimsy sheet metal component. If not, just shim it and be done with it. Selling a new vehicle where someone instantly notices a glaring defect when looking at a low-res photo is just not a good look for Rivian. I wonder what RJ would say if he saw that photo?

Unfortunately the charge port door is pure ass. I had to take my R2 in for re alignment. I am sure this will be alot of owners complain once they receive the vehicle. Door is ass. Not a door it's just a flop. Pure ass.

They shoulda put it up front instead.
I do agree with the assesment. Given the original description used by @HAL9000, what would the description be if it was "up front" and out of alignment? j/k

As long as you go in with eyes open, the chances of being happy are increased.

RJ has a lot of experience with comically misaligned parts.

The charge port door is slightly misaligned on at least half of the "real life" R2s I've seen online. Including the one I drove in Knightdale, NC. It poked out a little more at the bottom than everywhere else.

My early R1S had 2 badly aligned door handles on delivery. One of them could not be fixed and they offered to replace the door which I declined. I would have hoped the R1 experience would have ensured panel misalignment was resolved prior to production models.

Maybe we can start a thread on the early problems cropping up (which is inevitable)? Just saw this on FB:

r2_flatbed.webp

Needing a flatbed on the first day, a few hours after delivery, is brutal 😢😭
I got hit with that exact error weekend before last! I did a hard reboot and it cleared it. The error has not returned. Lovely.

Put me in the "I've seen it!" column.

THANK YOU EARLY ADOPTER TEST PILOTS!
I'm either skipping R2 entirely or waiting until there is an "X" model (or 3 motor variant).....by then, many of the early bugs (that are generally reasonably expected in a brand new vehicle model (and particularly from a newer manufacturer) should be worked out (or at least known).....

Sorry for OP's suffering, hopefully its a quick and easy fix.
Kinda where we are at, too. We got two more years on the Tesla lease. By then, hopefully these bugs will all be worked out.

IMO, the problem isn't that there was a problem with parking brake. Things break, whether it's a Lexus or Rivian - different failure rates of course. The problem is that a problem with parking brake is enough to disable the vehicle. Imagine being stuck hundreds or thousands of miles in middle of nowhere because the parking brake has a problem. Ice can have the exact failure and it will not strand me. This is not an isolated incident.

A small fender bender that shorts a parking sensor is enough to put Rivian in limp mode. If the hood is open(sensor issue) it will out me in limp mode. This is taking the nannies to a different level.
^ this.

Rivian has some crazy nannies. I get being super overprotective of the vehicle and the batteries and safety and all that, but bricking shouldn't be the default until the problem can get resolved. For some things, I understand, but this seems to be the go to once anything goes wrong. Hopefully it gets resolved in the future but wholeheartedly agree.

They need to adopt the aircraft warning system.. a malfunction will set off it's own independent malfunction light on the instrument panel and it will also set off the Master Caution light/alarm button which visually and audibly alerts you that one of the system caution lights has illuminated. You then press the Master Caution alarm button which kills the light an buzzer but leaves the malfunctioning system's alarm light on. You continue flying and you are aware that one system/component is in alarm state. It's a proven system that's worked well for over half a century.
