If you own a R1S like I do and are like me, you watched the announcement today more out of curiosity and hopefulness for Rivian's future, as I don't need an R2 - the R1S fills that need for my family. But then, here comes the R3 and the R3X out of left field. Our other car is a 10-year old BMW 528i, which we will be giving to our 14-year old son in two years when he starts driving. So, I had already been thinking about what I may want to get in two years...knowing that it would definitely be an EV. Would it be a Polestar? Perhaps. A Tesla Model 3? Maybe, although I'm increasingly anti-Elon and it seems like every other car I see on the road is a M3 or MY. A Lucid? Too expensive. What else? I'm not really a big fan of what I've been seeing EV-wise from the ICE manufacturers. But then...here's the R3. I showed it to my wife at lunch. We want! I covet!

I'm in the same boat. The R3 might replace my 2018 Model 3.

I have an x2 m35 in addition to my R1S. The R3 seems like a great replacement for that one at the appropriate time!

Maybe if R3X can be flat towed and Rivian releases a capable DM van. That sounds like about my ideal stable.

I got the R1S for its size, not to big and not to small. It really is the perfect size for me/us. I’m sticking with the R1S, but I will say, I feel abandoned today. ?

What were you hoping for? There aren't new R1 vehicles coming, but the refresh is going to hit soon.

Nothing really. Just watching all the hoopla over the new releases. I suppose if there was an unreal wish list it’s cramming more space into a smaller platform. I’m not unrealistic though. My wife is in a wheelchair and it’s the rear cargo height we need without folding the second row seats for other passengers. Everyone has their own needs and Rivian is getting it covered.

Absolutely. The R3 (maybe R3X) looks like a perfect complement to the practical R1S.

Just looking at the R3 instantly made me 30 years younger. I feel like I should go out and buy a new mountain bike now.

I’m with DRJ564. Was sort of hoping for some R1S tweaks to be announced. A pair of glove boxes might be too much to ask but I for one hope they put that new steering wheel into the R1S. Also, those new wheels are sweet.

I was blown away by what I did see, though.

and everyone thought todays reveal was going to be Rivians Model 3 moment.

turns out it was their Model 3 and Model Y moment.

both of these are going to be insanely popular if Rivian can deliver on price, specs and timelines. with the assumption that the R3 will not be far behind the R2 (same platform which leads me to believe they have in mind to get them out soon... i mean s0oo0n)

I've always thought the R1S is too big for my needs, but I bought it since there was nothing comparable on the market. R2 looks like the vehicle I wanted all along - smaller, but with all the same look and feel as the bigger R1S. R3 is too small and does not appeal to me at all.

R3 will replace my Mach-E. Probably not in the first batch of shipments, but my Mach-E is a first year, so by early 2027 its warranty will be running out (if it hasn't run out by miles already,) so will be about ready for replacement.

My current R1T you can only pry from my hands if someone comes out with an even smaller EV pickup that can tow 5000 lbs at least 200 miles on a charge. (R3T mayhems?)

I’ve said it elsewhere, but my wife feels the R1S is a bit too big for her to totally be comfortable in it and, besides, her husband stole it. I showed her the R2 and our preorder on it and she was pissed at me. Then she saw the R3 and thought it was cool and just the size she likes. Then she saw the R3X and was like, “make it mine, now!”

it’ll be replacing our Hyundai Ioniq 5. Perfect mix for our needs.

Oh, she also threatened to kill me if I tried to steal it, so you guys take note in case I disappear.
