RAN Rivian Charging Stations Locations Map via Google Maps

I am in midwest and the world seems content for us to keep burning coal for our cheap energy and keep burning gas in our Raptor R's and TRX.

I know that historically Tesla prioritized areas with high percentage of Tesla for their SC locations. Safe to assume that Rivian does the same, especially at the rate at which they're burning cash

I'm sure there will eventually be along the coasts but it's probably not a high priority right now. I"m thinking it's going to take until 2025 or even 2026 before they get to their 600 RANs.

Anyone else loom at what this location is? It was up for lease when Google drove street view by it in 2021, but it's kind of a random little buiding and parking lot that previously had a chiropractor in it. I wonder if they're going to take over the building as well.

Just mapped it, and it is absolutely possible to drive from the Canadian border to the Mexican border solely on RAN right now - even with the stock 20" wheels/tires. Longest stretch between them is 271 miles.

And it'll only get better as more come online. Can't leave the Pacific states yet without using third-party, though.

Could drive to Montana now on 90 and back with only RAN

There are a bunch coming soon and in planning. I wouldnt say that’s hating. Look at the Midwest if you want to see no planned RANs.

Where? The one I was excited about in West Lebanon had the permit expire . . . Although that one is now listed as coming soon by Rivian (as of a week or so ago, so that’s good news) plus the other one in Holyoke, MA (which is lovely for people leaving NE). Are there more? If they put one in West Lebanon I would be thrilled. Not trying to pretend NE is more important than the mid-west, but its a small, densely populated area with several major highways and tons and tons of tourists (Cape Cod and Coastal Maine have almost NOTHING for non-Tesla chargers to speak of, it is insane). I tried to take the Rivian to Cape Cod for a trip and its simply not possible (Unless I wanted to park at a level two and like walk a few miles back to my rental).

I am sure that is case. I argue RAN is a complete waste of money and Rivian shouldn't be spending even a dollar on it.

The quality of the user experience is critical to the success of Rivian. They can't rely on anybody else to make sure the road trip experience is positive. The deal with Tesla seems great, but again, they can't rely on Tesla because they're a competitor. They sure as heck can't rely on EA, EVGo, etc. to provide a good experience.

Service centers would be much more mission critical than Rivian owned and operated charging stations. I can list many things that would exceed RAN as a "quality of user experience " that would rank higher than RAN network, which is still non-existant, in the majority of markets in any substantive way.

The last sentence is pretty funny to me. As the saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day. RAN won't be either. Neither will the service network. Gotta start somewhere and build from there.

Businesses the size of Rivian can walk and chew gum at the same time. The people building out the service network aren't the same ones building out the RAN. Both of those take a long time. They have to do both at the same time. In an ideal world of Rivian success, they will be constantly building both forever.

My point is all those sales to date...in all those markets not served by RAN....says people will buy Rivians even without Rivian being an energy distribution company.

Energy distribution is a complicated business and one that can immediately be dominated in many markets by much bigger players in that arena.....once the ROI, due to BEV adoption....justifies the spend. For Rivian it is an overhead marketing expense. Eventually any margins will be killed on the energy itself and all the money will be made selling us doughnuts and coffee in the buildings next to the chargers. All these random chargers all over the place will be of low value when the existing petroleum retailers jump on board.

I think an initial purpose of RAN was to provide fast charging in new areas one might take their trucks (vs all the EV cars) and help enable owners to literally get off the normal EV routes. You know…the whole adventure thing ?. I’d like to see them continue with that and not immediately go redundant with EA & other networks. Plugging those type of holes in the existing networks would be my primary goal. Regardless, it’s good to have options.
