In the end I opted to keep the seat back installed. I can achieve my objectives with just the lower portion of the seat removed. I would have loved to drop the 50 lbs with the seat back but by the time I replaced it with plywood and carpet the weight savings wouldn't have been that big and it would never look as clean. As a plus this way it will be relatively easy to throw the seat back in should I need it.

Long term I may revisit, a molly panel on the passenger side would certainly be nice.

Excellent work, JJ! I was recently considering these brackets to add folding legs to another project. If you wanted some corner supports, maybe they’d be of use to you (or something like it).

Thanks for the tip. I’m still working on how exactly to secure the base. I’m talking to someone about building me some brackets and use the existing bolts where the lower seat hinge attaches.

Another progress shot. Latch for the opening is supposed to arrive tomorrow.

I ordered some black automotive carpet too but after playing with the handheld router all morning I’m less sure if I want to use it.

Finally got this thing strapped down thanks to some nice bracket work from @LivingInKaos.

Used the same bolt that holds the seat on either side, I used one on each side but have extra brackets if I decide I need another in the middle.

@jjswan33 I forgot to ask, are you still going to cover the plywood with automotive carpet?

Staining it espresso bean to match the BM interior? I like it!
Lol, no plans currently. That would be sick though if I could pull it off.

What is the usable depth and lenght of the space with the bottom of the seat removed? Ultimately I'm trying to figure out what size dog crate would fit on top of the plywood?

I measured about 28X56” but it would depend on how far you like to recline your seat.

Man, that looks great. Almost afraid to ask but how many hours ya got sunk into working on it so far, do you think? ?
Not more than a few hours on a couple of weekends, it was a pretty easy project.

Have any of you had problems with the driver's seat "calibration" feature after the rear seat delete?

I did this same rear seat delete about 9 months ago, and both my dogs and I love it. No problems until after the recent software/UI refresh about a month ago. Now when I adjust the driver's seat it says I need to re-calibrate the seat, and it takes me to a screen where it prompts me to remove everything from the back seat. Even with nothing in the back it won't let me proceed with the calibration. Is there some sensor in the back seat that it could be trying to use?

My wife wants me to put the seat back in, or at least 1/3 of it, in case we have a third human passenger. I may do that, but curious if any other seat deleters have run into this.

UPDATE: It turns out the rear seat heater connection was the culprit. I reconnected that and was able to proceed with the front seat calibration.
