Request: Lighted charging socket

Am I the only one who have trouble inserting the charger in the charging socket when it is dark? A simple led light in the socket would make it so much easier!!

My garage and driveway are lighted and in all of my travels, well over 100 different DCFC chargers, I’ve never been in a location too dark to plug in.

Curious where you are plugging in where it is too dark to see to plug in.

I have a gen 1, it’s not great. Take your phone light and shine it directly in your face to see what you want to see. Thats how it is. The light should shine AT what you want to see. Not at you. YMMV.

So you have the vehicle and clearly it doesn't have the lighting you'd like, if you are looking for a solution I'd suggest getting a small headlamp or clip on light that you can wear when you go to plug in. Something small could stash in one of the door pockets or in the little compartment under the driver's seat. Most of this type of light now comes with a USB port for recharges. Yes, I know not an ideal solution, but an inexpensive easy solution.

Actually, I find that the little ring around the port on Gen 1 just makes it harder to see since it sends light in the wrong direction (at your eyeballs, not the port).

They should have just put a small/simple single diode LED on the charge door pointed at the port.

Humor aside, it seems like a reasonable suggestion from OP. We have led’s at our door handles, puddle lights and in the cabin for convenience

I call AGE AND DISABILITY bias. 2022 R1T I charge in my garage. It works great but the port is very dark. is not lit. It was better after cataract surgery, but still, sometimes a challenge. this is and issue of function, not cosmetic.

Try this out to see if it works for you.

Grab the charging nozzle with one hand. Open the other hand and make it as flat as possible, placing it near the light ring. Position your flattened palm so that it reflects light to the charging port and allows for insertion of the charger. Position your head so that you hand blocks a portion of the light ring. I have found that the reflected light from my palm is bright enough to see the socket.

This may not work if you are wearing dark colored gloves, have dirty or highly pigmented palms, or if your eyes have limited low light sensitivity. Recommend using your phones light if this solution does not work for you.
