Hi, I picked up the Cargo Cross Bars from the Rivian Spaces (Chicago) this past Friday. Has anyone had any luck returning items like this to a Rivian Space? I chatted with Rivian through the App and they informed me my only option is to drive back to where I bought them. Rivian Spaces do not provide any mechanism for customers to communicate with them, so my only options are (1) drive into the city and find out if they’ll accept the return or (2) ask on here to see if someone already has experience with this.

Full disclosure: I did mount them on my vehicle and placed a roof-top tent on the bars to see what it would look like. I had them protected with some duct tape so they wouldn’t scratch. (I did not feel the cargo cross bars are sturdy enough to support a 175-lb roof top tent).

Not sure about returns, but ours have been plenty strong enough for our 159 lbs tent and awning.

Would you be interested in selling them, at a substantial loss, to me?

Another option: I would be interested in buying them from you if you'll pay to ship them to Alabama. Just let me know.

From the R1T user manual, a pair of crossbars is rated to 250lb dynamic (driving) and 780lb static (parked). They will support your tent fine...

I had to send mine back to Rivian, they charged for shipping. This was when the cross bars were $575, then price dropped to $470, I returned the more expensive set.

I don't think I've ever seen crossbars that would support 300lbs dynamic

Sounds like you need a weightless cargo box.

Or put lighter things in it and heavier things elsewhere?
So instead of the pair of cargo cross bars, I am now using an aftermarket roof rack (Dometic FrontRunner Slimline II) with hardware designed for R1S that mounts to the six mounting points on the roof.

This rack seems much more heavy duty that the RIVIAN cargo cross bars were because it uses 6 very chunky “V” shaped U-bolts that slip under each of the 6 mounting points.

This rack is not going to be the limiting factor with the dynamic weight capacity. It is going to be the mounting points on the RIVIANs roof.

I am able to find information that a pair of the Cargo Cross Bars can support 250 lbs dynamic weight, but I have not seen information about what a full roof rack using all 6 mounting points would provide.
