Not really, you're combining two different statements. One about him referencing about 7000 people within the company focused on whats next, from form factors, to updated battery tech and drive units.

Then she asked about Max pack and he said "Yeah sure, more range for that (pointing to the S) and the truck as well."

that was all.... no specifics unfortunately.
He didn’t say it there but based on what I know I would bet you a bottle of 12 year scotch that it’ll be 800v with in house motors.

That would be a splendid surprise! ?

Care to elaborate on any other things you might know? ??

I'm holding out for a truck with a range of 400+ miles. We spend considerable time exploring Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. Our off-grid cabin doesn't have charging capability (using only 2-3 kwh per day). As far as I know, the nearest public charger with more than 16 kw is in Cedar City (125 miles from Escalante). With a round trip of 250 miles, a range of 300 miles doesn't leave much range for exploring off-road.

I don’t know a lot of other cool things but that is the one piece of info I spent my family capital on.
It would align with the comments made about the progress made on the Enduro motors, and them making it into the manufacturing line in '23 and not '24.

Fingers crossed

I’d hope the. That that information is provided when delivery window updates go out, to add context to “here’s why the delivery window is much later than you were hoping” I’m girding myself for. I’m ready to be disappointed at the end of the month. THISCLOSE to giving up and cancelling if the news is grim.

part of my calculus was the statement early on that max pack would be built first.

Hauling anything large in the bed (yes its a pickup truck) really decreases the range and that's during warm weather driving. In the colder temps I'll need the 400 mile battery to haul dirt bikes out to remote locations.

My trip last month from Winnemucca to Boise and back is going to be a real struggle in colder terms with bikes in the bed. I'd be curious if the F-150 Lighting could even make it with some non- aero cargo in the back.

Oh, and add the 80mph speed limits in UT and NV and things get even worse.

I keep coming back to the fact that I think Rivian needs to launch the Max Pack in the R1T to be competitive. While Rivian fills a unique niche now, there are others coming after them like VW re-launching the Scout brand. I just do not see them dropping this, even with all of the other points out there as range anxiety is a large concern coming to EVs. If Rivian does not do it, others will.
It's not just range anxiety, but the core positioning of Rivian requires more than 290 mile range on AT tires. EVs can't carry extra gas, and there is not going to be that last gas station before heading into a remote area.

Like Wrangler, many Rivian buyers will in reality only be aspirational remote travelers. But to be legitimate in this market segment an EV needs long range and a winch.

So I do the I-80 drive frequently in my R1T from Sacramento to SLC and I have had good luck with the EA chargers on the route. They are frequent enough in Nevada to alleviate any range anxiety, especially with items in the bed. I think the longest stretch without one is from West Wendover to SLC. It will be nice if Rivian ever gets the RAN on that route, and I am looking forward to the one in Truckee opening soon.
