Rivian R1T R1S Rivian executive acknowledges R1S AC noise problem 1718661681174-oy

From what I can gather on google. it looks like its generally safe to wrap ac compressors in a sound blanket. someone talk me out of this before I spend too much time thinking it over.

It's sad that Rivian couldn't be bothered to research this issue enough to even find such a simple remedy.
This is great and thanks of course! Though, do we really believe Rivian hasn’t known this by now? People have reported a dampening fix to their a/c performed by Rivian. Seems more like they’re simply refusing to acknowledge it in most cases. Either way, thanks and hope this helps everyone as well.

I mean.... This is a quote about it.

" ROCKWOOL insulation is non-combustible and fire-resistant, and it doesn't burn or release toxic smoke when exposed to fire. It's made from stone wool, which can withstand temperatures of over 1,000°C without melting. ROCKWOOL insulation is a key component in fire-resistant buildings, helping to slow the spread of flames and contain fires locally. It's also used on ships and offshore platforms for fire protection. "

I've spec'd it multiple times in equipment we were building, but I never really installed the stuff.
Does it fall apart if handled a lot? Maybe you can attach thin layers to that high temp foil type wrap to keep it together.

They acknowledged it by moving the compressor in the R1 Gen2. Although quieter on the inside of the vehicle, I hear it is just as noisy on the outside.

For clarification, I mean they haven’t acknowledged there’s a solution for gen 1 though they know there is one.

They make sound blankets. You just have to find the right size. Ie Automotive sized.

It might be OK, but in extremely hot weather, it might not. Keep in mind that completely wrapping it is also going to trap heat inside the insulation and compressor. In general, if the temperature of any AC system compressor component starts going above 225 F externally, the internal temperatures is likely approaching 250-300 degrees and risks burning/degrading the lubricating oil in the system.

I have the similar issue, I had a technician come out and validate that and said its operating as how it should, I again raised a support case and pushed the support executive to seriously look into this, they asked me to turn in the car on Jul 1st, I will keep you posted on how it goes, Hope they wont hold my car for too long.

Here's where I have issues. The ground connector on the compressor rubbed against the strut tower. It's bad enough that it wore through the paint and the car has 4k miles. I bent it out of the way.

The cabling going through the firewall hits against the HV orange line coming out of the compressor. Bent those a bit as well as they continually rub.

There are also a couple of sensor leads the rub on the lines. One off the compressor back and one near the battery. I moved those as well.

Just took ownership of a 23 R1S and the AC sounded like a jet engine. Any fixes yet?

When getting into a warm car for first time it was loud but softened after a few minutes of driving.

I can say that it is noisy. Mine is noisy when it’s cooling the battery down for charging and cooling the interior. My Ford lightning and Tesla model three also go into that hyper mode and they’re very loud but it’s really hard to tell which ones louder.
