I'm thinking they are also headed to being like Tesla where if you want, it is 100% no touch and you basically use the app to accept delivery and pick your car up at dealer or even a lot nearby.
Good by theory unless you have any issues - but you need to capture those on delivery still, and as long as PAAK works actually and they guide you through pairing, etc. That and the car would have to be locked if came with a fob/cards/wristband the first time of course inside - possible pre-ownership I guess to disable.

Cool overall and would allow them to delivery much more faster. But, doesn't always work I'm sure. We picked up a Tesla in church lot in Austin a year or two ago and man, didn't open after accepting delivery, and had bad service out in the lot so getting ahold of the service team, no one was at SC to help since a ways off, etc. sucked - took a good hour standing outside in the cold.

I am 2 hours from Houston. With no dealer network, Louisiana residents cannot take delivery in TX without paying sales tax twice. I will be interested to see if Rivian still charges for home delivery.
I live in Houston, but 45 minutes from the middle of nowhere they put the service center. Would happily have paid a reasonable fee for delivery but it was not offered/available. R1S is still awesome, still happy, but def an annoyance.

So what is the fee? Didn't see it listed in the article. Or is it subject to location?

I was not offered home delivery on mine back in March. They specifically told me they wanted me to come to Richmond, but just as well - I'd never driven any EV before in my life so was glad to do it with someone from there. ?
$1000, unless you live in an area where home delivery is the only option available to you. They will waive the fee in that case.

what fee does Rivian pay when we have to drive our R1xs to a service center in lieu of mobile "service?"

It has to be the same for every purchaser regardless of location for a given model. However, a manufacture is not required to charge one in the first place.

Also ma if a tires are raising destination fees so they can advertise a lower price. It should absolutely be baked into the MSRP. https://www.consumerreports.org/buying-a-car/the-truth-about-destination-fees-a1615480982/

Absolutely used to keep MSRP lower (marketing) while adding it back as a uniform shipping fee. The bigger the destination nation fee, the lower the MSRP.

Looks like my Fisker Ocean is gonna run $680 for home delivery. Not too crazy I guess.

I agree home delivery is an expensive bottle neck but if they are charging extra for it they should also waive the destination fee if you pick up at the factory... fair is fair.
FWIW, Corvette used to charge a premium for the Bowling Green factory pickup due to the "experience" you were getting... and many people gladly paid it. Not sure if they're still doing that or not today, but the factory tour at Rivian - and meeting some of the Corporate representatives - is a fun experience if you're interested in seeing that side of the business.

We were not initially offered home delivery but I requested it as I don’t have time to make the trip to the Normal factory (they did offer to give me a tour during delivery). We are only a few hours away from the factory but I’m too busy. We are scheduled to take delivery via home delivery next week, no delivery fee was on my paperwork from last week besides the dest. Fee that probably everyone pays.

I lucked out with scheduling my delivery prior to Rivian implementing the home delivery fee. There's now a line item for home delivery fee on my purchase information, but it is listed as 0. I am 30 minutes from a service center and did not have to request a home delivery.

I was scheduled for a Oct-Dec delivery for my R1S, but received a text from my guide and service center the same day before the end of the quarter wanting me to pick up from the service center in 3 days, which I declined. I waited an additional 2 weeks for delivery from the first contact from my guide/service center.

Saw the line when I took one from the shop today. Service center is 3.5 miles from my house. Planning on taking the e-bike down for pickup. Throw it in the back for the drive home.

I just found this support article that was updated yesterday. https://rivian.com/support/article/why-is-rivian-introducing-a-fee-for-home-deliveries

I wasn't even aware they were still offering Home Delivery as I wasn't given the choice on my S.
I took delivery in Oct’22 they offered for me to pickup 3 weeks earlier in Richmond Va Service center 3 hours away. I declined when they said they wouldn’t refund a delivery charge that was included with purchase price. ?
