An Airbnb has a Rivian Waypoint Network location across the street. If I book, I'd like to use it for overnight charging, but Rivian says that they charge idle fees on both networks. But the app only shows idle fees for Rivian Adventure Network. Does anyone know if this info from Rivian is right? There are somewhat limited options for charging at my proposed destination, so it'd be great if I could charge there overnight. But setting the alarm for wee hours of the morning to unplug seems harsh, especially if I'm tired from a mountain bike ride.

Where is it? Plugshare may tell you what to expect for the charger. Many of the Waypoints are free. What I've done in the past is plug it in right before I go to bed, and unplug as soon as I get up. You will want to verify it is working too. I know of some waypoints that have been inoperable for over a year.

Waypoint chargers are level 2 (slow). If you are below about 40-50% SOC (depending on battery capacity) it should still be charging when you get up, so no idle fees.

I figure I'd use 60kWh getting there, so under 6 hours at 11.5kW. Or like 2am.

I’d try to find out what the max charge rate is at the charger you plan to use.

I rarely see a public L2 charger that actually will charge at 11.5 kWh. A lot are set for under 7.2 kWh as they only require a 30 amp circuit.

When you start your session doesn’t the screen give you an estimate on time? Set your phone’s alarm to it. Don’t be selfish, move your damn car so others can use it then go back to bed. Or just plug it in later so you’re up by the time it’s done. Or don’t and just go to a DCFC the next day.

Yeah I doubt the L2 charger is 11 kW, probably 6.6 or 7.2 so it will take you a bit longer. When you plug in Rivian will tell you your estimated completion in number of hours so use that to set an alarm and move it when it's done.

Do Waypoints charge that quickly? Normally L2 is like 6.5kW. I have a max pack battery. It takes like 26 hours from 10 to 100% on the public L2 I use most frequently.

Peak for L2 is 11 (?) kW and 48A. Actual performance depends on the source, the circuit the EVSE is installed on and how much juice its fed.

Well, I'm used to Tesla destination chargers where one just leaves it in overnight, as expected. And the town doesn't have fast charging. Ok, another town then.

what does waypoint vs destination mean to you? To me, waypoint doesn't mean you're leaving your vehicle overnight.
