I'm out too. My build went from $84k to $98k. Honestly, that pricing is still reasonable for what you get, but like some have said here already, I don't like how Rivian handled this price hike. That and few other things already had me on the fence - unproven quality, reliability and service network once production actually ramps and more of these are on the road being used and abused, and of course nitpicky stuff like insistence that Apple CarPlay would not be integrated, among other things. Their handling and manner of communication to pre-order customers with this price hike just pushed me over the edge. If I'm going to spend $98k on our family's first EV, I might as well get a proven one that I truly love the look of and don't mind spending six figures on. It's a totally different type of car, but Taycan 4S Cross Turismo here I come. Significantly more expensive than the Rivian even after the price hike, but so be it. It's become clear that Rivian doesn't deserve my money.

I agree with everyone's sentiments. The massive price increase feels like a punch to the gut, like you are breaking up with a boyfriend or girlfriend. I find it incredible how emotional it is and how we are all reacting to the decision to purchase/not purchase the vehicle. I still feel this even after sleeping on it.

However, it is emotional! We are all trying to make progress in our lives and, once we commit to something that we think will help us make progress (whatever that progress is to you), we become emotionally attached. That is what RJ and Jiten Behl completely missed in their decision. They ran the numbers and made a decision about profits, but they missed that customers are not numbers. We are people.

I do think we should all let RJ, Jiten, and Rivian know this!

I'm close to cutting my preorder loose. Extra sting for me is that I just unloaded my trusty Tacoma in anticipation of making space for the Rivian... so frustrated now

I just joined this forum to vent my frustration and anger with Rivian's decision to increase prices by 20% for existing preorder holders (I'm Feb '21). I have worked in clean energy since 2008. I've been promoting EV's as an important tool in our fight against climate change ever since I worked in the EV charging space and zipped around town in my Fiat 500e; EV's became a part of my identity. When Rivian emerged from stealth, quite a few of my former colleagues went to work for Rivian. Here was an EV company that was not Tesla - in fact the opposite of Tesla in a number of ways - that many could believe in. Rivian could actually be the first serious contender to take electric trucks and SUV's mainstream. I became a real Rivian believer and brand ambassador. I took my sons out of school to bring them to the Rivian first mile demo day and was super excited to be able to show them there is a future for them thanks to forward looking companies like Rivian who are pioneering clean transport. I bought the max amount of stocks I was allowed under the preorder program. I talked to all my friends about Rivian, heck I even bought the gear.

Yesterday's email from Rivian changed all that. I honestly can't believe Rivian does not know their brand is everything, and their loyal early adopter fan base is hugely important to their brand at the phase the company is in. I don't see how they can recover from the self-inflicted damage to their brand by this unnecessary, short-sighted decision. I can afford the $16k price hike. But I cannot accept Rivian treating its loyal fans like this. The financial loss stings, but Rivian being disingenuous hurts. As is the case for the vast majority of the preorder holders writing on this and other Rivian forums, Rivian no longer earns my trust.

I'm out.

It occurs to me that this is by design. This is how Rivian reallocates resources to fulfill Amazon contracts in a supply constrained world.

Wouldn't be surprised if that ends up being their plan.

Unofficially, I'm out. Hoping for a market rebound a bit. I cant loose my hide. I invested heavily.. More than I should have... And now I am paying for that faith.

I will hold onto my order for 1 more month.. If they dont fix this shit, I am out!
I lost a ton of money on NIO and I mean a ton. Shit sucks...

Hard dose of reality is that majority of people out there who buy a Rivian in future won’t be going through this gut punch of a price correction and will simply see it as a comparatively priced ev vehicle so I hardly think that long term it is going to sink the company.
Those people will get the gut punch somehow; In handling recall, charging for parts or services, ...... they will likely mismanage everything in future the way they have mismanaged it so far. The question is if they last long enough to learn.

How? This doesn't change the number of consumer vehicles they will produce or sell.

Not sure they will mismanage everything but this is my greatest fear in keeping my preorder. This attitude of not thinking things through can possibly leak into their engineering, servicing, etc.

Remember folks you aren't done dealing with the car manufacturer after the sale is completed...

Too many "unofficially" out posters. Rivian doesn't feel the results of their actions until you are "officially" out. I cancelled yesterday. At that price point, just doesn't have the value anymore, especially to make compromises to go with Rivian. The price made the compromise worth it. Now that's gone.

Had hedged my bets by ordering an F-150 Lariat Lightning. Order was confirmed last week and price LOCKED for $78,000. Far more truck than the Rivian, which was at $78K and jumped to $95K yesterday. Was on the fence about which one to get. I guess I should thank Rivian as I was driving myself nuts trying to decide. Made it a no-brainer. My F-150 is already in production and due by June. Will hold me over until the Silverado comes along.

I am OFFICIALLY out as of yesterday!
