Second guessing R1T "purchase"

I've been lurking around for a bit and this is my first post. Thanks all for all the great info that is here all the time

It took me a couple years to create the courage to get an R1T and I finally "did" it. I made the reservation and paid the $1000 on May 23rd and a couple days later I got access to the R1T shop. I browsed for a while before deciding between "El Cap" or "Forest Green" but ended up going with the green.

Finally, yesterday I selected an R1T that was in the shop. A few hours late I got a VIN 021XXX.

However, today I woke up with "buyers" remorse. I know no one can truly answer this but I am questioning if I am making the right decision.

I have no financial problems and can afford it but looking at recent sold R1Ts and their prices, I am question if this is a responsible choice. I also don't necessarily need to get the Quad-Motor and I happy to wait for a bit to get one.

It feels to me that, financially, I'd be better waiting for a bit. I am also worried this model I've picked is a return. Am I overthinking here?

Do you need, not want, to go faster, have more torque, hp and to do rock crawling? Yes to any or another option, buy it. Otherwise, wait. Since like most of us you do not need an R1T today.

In the end, yes you must decide.

Cars are seldom a wise investment. If your plan is to drive and flip, then that train has left the station. If you plan on enjoying a remarkable truck and have no issues taking normal depreciation in a few years, then this may be the truck for you.

While my truck is in for minor service items, Rivian got me a rental 2022 Mercedes GLE 350, which I would consider a comparable ICE model to the R1S. Interior is very nice, but still has a million buttons. Fit and finish and seat comfort are great. Engine stop/start is annoying x10 and it sounds like a diesel truck at idle. Low speed shifting is not what I expected and is jerky. Exterior fit and body panel alignment is very good, if not perfect. High speed freeway driving, the handling is near perfect, with a great steering feel. I let my sister in law drive it and she is sold, although she hasn't seen our R1S in person. Depreciation on the $65+ Mercedes is $10k-$15k with only 10,000 miles on the odometer. She will probably buy used due to this.

You’re just seeing the normal depreciation of any new vehicle. If you want a fun to drive truck that does everything right except for long distance towing or fast trips across the country then you can’t go wrong.

This right here is great advice. If you're wondering if the truck is a waste of money then for you it is. We are all different. We have different incomes, different priorities, different commitments and debts. I didn't have a second thought financially and would do it again in the same situation. Then again the price point of the R1 series is where I normally am at for vehicles. I really hate driving as a general rule.

That's why for me it's worth it to buy a car I actually like. When I drive something that I really like it turns a dreaded task into a fun one.

We waited for 4 1/2 years to get our R1T. SuEllyn placed her deposit on November 28th, 2018. We took delivery at the Factory on April 26th of this year. Our VIN is 0224xx and this was a late March production. It would appear that yours was produced some time in March. We love our R1T and are having a lot of fun with it. Yes, it is an expensive truck, but it is also a great truck. We are lifelong car people and this is the truck that we really want.

You will have to decide if this is the truck that you really want. If so, there should be no remorse. Best wishes in your decision.

My quad motor is the best car I have ever owned and I am so glad I bought it. Next R? will be a dual motor for a variety of reasons but I don't regret my purchase of my R1T for a second.

Rivian doesn't sell used vehicles, only new afaik. In my opinion, you're overthinking it, but that's okay. Just remember you only live once and you can't take your money with you. If you can afford it, go for it! I'll be taking delivery of a beautiful Launch Edition in a few weeks and couldn't be more excited.

If you are feeling hesitant and you don't need the quad motor, I would just wait. They are great vehicles but with some growing pains. If you are already having buyers remorse you might be hyper tuned to any issues that might show up.

Have you test driven one yet? Do you live close to a service center?

The fact that you woke up with buyers remorse is telling. You should be excited about your purchase, and clearly you have mixed emotions.

Your subconscious is telling you something and maybe you should be listening. Even if you can afford the purchase, it is a very big purchase.

I am all for you replacing an ICE vehicle with an electric vehicle and I hope that if you decide that the R1T isn't the right vehicle for you or your family that you will still consider an electric.
